Etihad to launch 4,500-ton-per-day high-tech flour mill in Iraq

The mill features six advanced production lines, all sourced from the renowned Swiss manufacturer Bühler.

IRAQ – Etihad Group is set to inaugurate one of the Middle East’s largest flour mills, boasting a production capacity of 4,500 tons daily in Babylon governorate in central Iraq.

This state-of-the-art facility will utilize the latest technologies to produce premium “Lazord” flour products. Complementing this impressive production capacity, the mill will feature massive storage facilities capable of holding up to 1.8 million tons of grain, ensuring a steady and reliable supply for production.

The foundation stone for this ambitious project was laid in mid-2024, with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani in attendance. The mill features six advanced production lines, all sourced from the renowned Swiss manufacturer Bühler.

During the project’s announcement, Etiyad said that the mill will feature innovative techniques in milling and packaging operations, enabling the production of various types of flour, including white flour, whole wheat flour, and semolina used in confectionery and pasta production, delivered with premium quality to consumers.

Packaging will be available in multiple sizes, ranging from 1-kilogram bags to 50 kilograms, as well as bulk options, catering to diverse consumer needs.

The company will also ensure all products undergo rigorous laboratory testing using the latest inspection technologies, adhering to international and Iraqi quality standards at every stage, from raw material reception to production processes and final output.

According to the company, one of the project’s key objectives is reducing reliance on imported flour, promoting self-sufficiency, contributing to trade balance, supporting price stability, and meeting the growing market demand.

Established in 2012 in the Medhatya region of Babylon province, Iraq, Etihad Food Industries began its operations with a sugar refinery. In 2016, the company expanded by establishing an edible oil refinery plant.

Demonstrating a commitment to self-sufficiency and vertical integration, Etihad owns a fleet of 210 trucks and 100 tanker trucks dedicated to transporting raw materials from the port in Umm Qasr to its factories.

In addition to the flour mill, Etihad Group has recently expanded its operations in the food industry. In May 2024, the company launched several new facilities, including a sugar plant expansion that increased production capacity from 4,200 to 6,000 tons per day, a vegetable oil extraction plant, a feed production plant, and a premix plant.

The forthcoming flour mill project represents a significant milestone for Etihad Food Industries, reinforcing its position as a leader in the milling industry.
