Al Dahra partners Getreide AG to tap Ukraine’s agricultural export corridor

The collaboration strengthens Al Dahra’s competitive position in international grain markets while ensuring reliable supply to its customers across the Middle East and Africa.

UAE – Al Dahra, the United Arab Emirates-based global agribusiness, has signed an exclusive agreement with Getreide AG Ukraine to establish strategic grain sourcing operations in Ukraine, significantly expanding Al Dahra’s global footprint and supply chain capabilities.

This landmark partnership grants Al Dahra direct access to Ukraine’s abundant and highly productive agricultural sector, which stands as one of the world’s leading exporters of wheat, corn, and barley on the global stage.

The collaboration strengthens Al Dahra’s competitive position in international grain markets while ensuring reliable supply to its customers across the Middle East and Africa.

Under the agreement, Al Dahra `will initially source between 100,000 and 150,000 metric tonnes of agricultural commodities, with plans to scale operations beyond 500,000 metric tonnes. This Ukrainian venture complements Al Dahra’s established operations in Serbia, Romania, Egypt, and the United States, further bolstering its supply capabilities.

The companies plan to finalize integration of operations before Ukraine’s new crop season begins in July, enabling Al Dahra to establish a strong regional foothold despite geopolitical and logistical challenges affecting Ukraine’s grain exports since the onset of conflict in 2022.

“This partnership marks a pivotal advancement in our global strategy to secure resilient supply chains for our customers,” said Arnoud van den Berg, Group CEO of Al Dahra.

“Our exclusive relationship with Getreide AG Ukraine positions us strategically in one of the world’s most vital agricultural regions,” he added.

With over 20 countries in its sourcing network, Al Dahra handles grain farming, processing and trading of commodities like wheat, barley, soybeans, corn, and sunflower. Its trading hub in Constanta, Romania, already provides access to the Black Sea Region, a strategic corridor for grain exports.

Meanwhile, Getreide AG Ukraine, a subsidiary of Hamburg-based Getreide AG, plays a crucial role in facilitating rapeseed and grain exports to Germany. The parent company operates in over 62 countries, providing malt, rapeseed oil, and other processed agricultural products to global markets.

Its involvement will ensure that the partnership leverages not only logistics and trade routes but also technical expertise in grain processing and quality control.

The partnership comes at a critical times, as Ukraine’s flour exports to the European Union are poised for a significant disruption starting June 5, 2025, due to the inclusion of flour under the same export quota as wheat.

The EU’s annual duty-free import quota for wheat and its derivatives, including flour and granules, is capped at 1 million tonnes. With the wheat portion of this quota nearing exhaustion, there is little to no capacity left for flour exports.

This threatens to halt shipments to the EU, a market that accounts for over 70% of exports for five of Ukraine’s top ten flour producers.

Rodion Rybchinsky, director of the Flour Mills of Ukraine Union, emphasized that this regulatory structure severely limits Ukraine’s ability to sustain flour exports to its most critical market.

“We have been applying for a long time, writing letters to remove flour from the wheat code, but everything has remained the same,” Rybchinsky told Latifundist.com.
