With a diverse portfolio of functional ingredients, ACI offers various pea protein formats that enhance the protein content, texture, and mouthfeel of products like cereal bars, cakes, and baked goods.
UK – ACI Group, a global supplier of innovative ingredients, products and raw materials for the food, pharmaceutical and chemical sectors, has expressed that it advocates for pea protein as an essential ingredient to be used by manufacturers in response to the increasing consumer demand for nutritious, clean-label snack options.
ACI’s pea protein portfolio includes isolated formats with up to 83% protein content suitable for high-protein drinks, desserts, and baked goods.
It also offers yellow pea and chickpea powders with moderate protein levels for broader formulation flexibility.
Protein nuggets, available in various shapes with 55% or 70% protein content, are ideal for applications like bars and tray bakes.
Additionally, texturized pea protein flakes (74.6% protein) are designed for alternative meat products, providing a meat-like texture for savory items.
“Pea protein is a highly versatile, non-allergenic ingredient. Consumers want snacks that taste great and feel indulgent. Manufacturers are therefore looking for ways to improve taste and texture while keeping labels clean and appealing,” said Trish Fellowes, Food Sales Manager at ACI.
These solutions also facilitate strong health claims because products can be labeled ‘high in protein’ if protein constitutes at least 20% of the food’s energy value—a significant factor driving purchasing decisions among health-conscious consumers.
“Pea protein aligns with several trends driving the better-for-you snacking market. It enables manufacturers to create indulgent plant-based products with exciting flavor and texture combinations, all while fulfilling sustainability and nutritional goals,” Fellowes added.
According to a report released by Fortune Business Insights, the global pea protein market size reached US$530.61M in 2023. It is projected to grow from US$587.36M in 2024 to US$1,644.67M by 2032, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.32% during the forecast period (2024-2032).
The report also noted that the consumption of a protein-rich diet has significantly increased in recent years due to a rise in health awareness among consumers worldwide. Moreover, growing fitness trends, especially among millennials, have further propelled the adoption of protein-rich diets.
Furthermore, child malnutrition remains a critical issue in many African countries, primarily caused by protein deficiency. As a result, these countries are increasingly emphasizing a protein-rich diet, which is expected to drive the demand for protein-rich ingredients such as peas.
