The validation confirms that GNT‘s environmental impact assessment framework adheres strictly to international ISO 14067 standards, providing the global food and beverage industry with audit-ready, standardized carbon emissions data for ingredient-level formulations.

NETHERLANDS – GNT Group has secured independent verification of its Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) methodology for its plant-based EXBERRY® food colouring range, strengthening its efforts to provide transparent, independently assessed environmental data to food and beverage manufacturers.
TÜV SÜD conducted the verification and confirmed that GNT’s cradle-to-gate methodology aligns with the requirements of ISO 14067, the international standard for quantifying the carbon footprint of products.
The verification makes GNT one of the first food colour manufacturers worldwide to have its PCF methodology independently assessed against the ISO standard.
The company said the methodology calculates greenhouse gas emissions associated with EXBERRY® colouring ingredients throughout their defined lifecycle, covering agricultural production of raw materials, energy consumption during processing and transportation up to the factory gate.
EXBERRY® colors are produced from non-GMO fruits, vegetables and plants and are used across a broad range of food and beverage applications.
These include bakery, confectionery, dairy products, beverages, cereals, snacks, sauces and plant-based meat, seafood and dairy alternatives.
The portfolio provides manufacturers with plant-based colouring options that meet requirements for colour performance, stability, and ease of application.
According to GNT, independently verified product-level carbon data can help food and beverage companies incorporate more reliable information into sustainability reporting, procurement decisions and product development.
The data can also help manufacturers assess the contribution of individual ingredients to the overall environmental footprint of finished products.
Petra Thiele, Managing Director at GNT Group, said the verification strengthens transparency and gives customers greater confidence in the company’s carbon footprint information.
The company’s Senior Sustainability Specialist, Akshat Rawat, added that the verified data is intended to support customers in their decarbonization efforts and in developing products with improved sustainability performance.
The product-level verification complements GNT’s existing corporate carbon footprint verification under the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, which covers Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions across its colour production activities.
GNT also holds an EcoVadis Platinum rating, placing it among the top 1% of companies in the food manufacturing industry for sustainability performance.
The move comes as food manufacturers face growing pressure to substantiate environmental claims with credible, comparable data.
By applying an ISO 14067-aligned methodology to EXBERRY® ingredients, GNT aims to give customers a more consistent basis for evaluating ingredient-level emissions and integrating carbon information into broader product sustainability assessments.
