Sweetmore Bakeries expands US bakery footprint with acquisition of Fantasy Baking Co.

The addition of Fantasy Baking further expands Sweetmore Bakeries’ scale, strengthens its position in the key cookie and baked bar categories, and advances its long-term strategy of building a coast-to-coast network for premium sweet baked goods.

USA – Sweetmore Bakeries has completed the acquisition of Fantasy Baking Co., a California-based manufacturer of private-label and branded sweet baked goods, for an undisclosed amount.

The strategic transaction marks Sweetmore’s sixth manufacturing facility nationwide and establishes its first dedicated production footprint on the US West Coast, significantly expanding its operational scale and geographic reach across North American retail and foodservice distribution channels.

The transaction adds a sixth production facility to Sweetmore’s growing bakery platform, strengthening its capabilities in cookies, baked bars and other specialty sweet products.

With the addition of Fantasy Baking, the company’s manufacturing footprint now stretches across the Northeast, Midwest, Southeast, Southwest and West, supporting its strategy of developing a coast-to-coast platform for premium sweet baked goods.

Founded in 1979 and headquartered in Sylmar, California, Fantasy Baking Co. brings over 45 years of specialized formulation expertise and custom production capabilities to the Sweetmore platform.

The company operates an SQF-certified facility equipped with an in-house research and development laboratory. Its product portfolio spans cookies, fruit-filled bars, dessert bars, breakfast bars, dry blends, and specialty ice cream inclusions.

Additionally, Fantasy Baking possesses extensive technical capabilities in better-for-you market segments, including organic, high-protein, non-GMO, gluten-free, and Kosher formulations.

The acquisition aligns with Sweetmore Bakeries’ long-term growth strategy of assembling specialized regional bakeries to build a comprehensive national manufacturing platform.

Backed by private equity firm Shore Capital Partners, Sweetmore has steadily built a multi-site network that includes Main Street Gourmet, Biscotti Brothers, Meurer Brothers, Sweet Eddie’s, and Azteca Bakeries.

By incorporating Fantasy Baking’s Sylmar plant, Sweetmore bridges a key geographic gap, enabling the group to optimize supply chain logistics, shorten freight lead times to West Coast retail partners, and scale production capacity for its broader portfolio of specialty sweet baked goods.

David Veenstra, Chief Executive Officer of Sweetmore Bakeries, said adding Fantasy Baking gives the company a true West Coast manufacturing presence while strengthening its national R&D and better-for-you production capabilities.

Russ Case, Chief Executive Officer of Fantasy Baking, noted that joining forces with Sweetmore allows the heritage California brand to leverage national scale and resources while maintaining its commitment to product quality and innovation.

The acquisition allows Sweetmore to integrate Fantasy Baking’s mature operations, experienced workforce, and established customer programs seamlessly without interrupting ongoing commercial delivery.
