Sona Machinery commissions full turnkey rice mill, parboiling dryer plant in Nepal

The Sarlahi project stands out as a full turnkey solution, entirely designed, engineered, manufactured, and commissioned by Sona Machinery’s in-house team.

NEPAL – India-based engineering and agri-machinery manufacturer, Sona Machinery Ltd, has expanded its footprint with the successful commissioning of a fully integrated rice mill and parboiling dryer plant in Sarlahi Ishwarpur, Nepal.

The newly launched facility marks a milestone in the company’s ongoing global growth strategy and represents a significant advancement in rice processing infrastructure for the region.

According to the company, unlike previous installations where Sona Machinery provided partial equipment and consultancy, the Sarlahi project stands out as a full turnkey solution, entirely designed, engineered, manufactured, and commissioned by Sona Machinery’s in-house team.

The integration of a parboiling dryer unit makes this setup a complete, one-stop rice processing facility, enabling local processors to achieve enhanced product quality, operational efficiency, and reduced reliance on multiple service providers.

This project in Sarlahi Ishwarpur marks a milestone for us, not just in Nepal, but in our turnkey capability delivery,” said Vasu Naren, Chairman and Managing Director of Sona Machinery.

“By offering everything from in-house manufacturing to final commissioning, we ensure higher efficiency, better quality control, and a seamless experience for our clients,” he added.

Sona Machinery has already delivered over 200 successful projects across India, and the company’s international presence is growing steadily with completed or ongoing installations in Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Bangladesh, and now Nepal. The expansion reflects the company’s role in supporting agricultural transformation in developing markets through the deployment of advanced post-harvest solutions.

The global rice milling machine market is experiencing strong growth, valued at approximately US$ 1.2 billion in 2024 and projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.1% through 2034, according to Global Market Insights.

The Asia-Pacific region, particularly countries like India, Bangladesh, and Nepal, accounts for nearly 48% of the global market share, driven by increasing demand for automation, higher yield recovery, and improved food safety. Fully automated and turnkey rice milling systems are expected to dominate the market, projected to exceed US$ 850 million by 2034.

This context positions Sona Machinery’s capabilities squarely in line with global trends. The company, headquartered in Ghaziabad, India, operates a 10,000 m² manufacturing facility with a team of over 350 professionals and serves more than 10,000 clients globally. Its product portfolio includes equipment for rice milling (3–16 TPH), flour milling, and grain-based distillery processing, along with integrated solutions such as air classifier cleaners, de-stoners, hulling machines, graders, pneumatic dryers, and automation panels.

Sona Machinery has also gained industry recognition as one of India’s top 10 industrial service providers in 2022 and was recently named among the Prestigious Brands of Asia in 2023 for its contributions to agricultural mechanization.
