Mr. Scalzo will be appointed as a member of the Board of Directors on January 28, 2026, following the Company’s Annual Meeting of Stockholders.

USA – The Simply Good Foods Company, a leader in the Nutritional Snacking category, has announced the return and appointment of longtime former executive Joseph E. Scalzo as President and Chief Executive Officer, a move the company framed as the start of a new chapter focused on reigniting growth and improving profitability.
The appointment was made public in a company release dated January 20, 2026, which noted that Scalzo previously served as the company’s CEO until July 2023 and remained involved as Executive Vice Chairman through August 2024.
The press release said Scalzo will be appointed to the board of directors on January 28, 2026, following the firm’s Annual Meeting of Stockholders.
Scalzo’s return comes amid a strategic recalibration for the Denver‑based nutritional snacking company, which has been working to stabilize performance and sharpen its go‑to‑market approach.
Company statements emphasized that Scalzo is a key architect of the business and that his leadership will prioritize operational discipline, margin improvement, and renewed innovation across the brand portfolio.
Mr. Scalzo brings immediate familiarity with the Company, its brands, and infrastructure, as well as the vision required to lead a modern nutritional snacking platform, supported by a deep understanding of industry trends and consumer preferences.
During his decade-long tenure as CEO and as Executive Vice Chairman at Simply Good Foods and its predecessor Atkins Nutritionals, Inc., Mr. Scalzo presided over a period of substantial value creation, overseeing the Company’s debut in the public markets in 2017, fueling significant growth, and executing its transition into a multi-brand, category-leading platform via the successful acquisition and integration of Quest Nutrition.
The board’s decision to bring back a familiar executive signals confidence in a leader who already knows the company’s operations, retail relationships, and product roadmap.
James Kilts, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Simply Good Foods, commented, “Joe is a visionary in our industry, widely admired by our team and partners alike for his role as the key architect of the business over the course of the last decade. We are pleased to welcome him back as we embark on a new chapter of driving growth and creating value for our stockholders.”
Industry observers said the move could accelerate strategic initiatives such as product innovation, cost optimization, and expanded retail distribution if Scalzo can translate his prior experience into renewed execution and clearer financial targets.
Simply Good Foods said Scalzo succeeds Geoff Tanner, effective immediately, and that the company will support the transition with a clear mandate to improve profitability and shareholder value.
