Rich’s acquires Great Kitchens Food Company to build pizza powerhouse

The transaction will create a vertically integrated pizza platform combining Rich’s crust innovation with Great Kitchens’ expertise in fully topped pizzas and take‑and‑bake formats.

USA – Family-owned food giant Rich Products Corporation (Rich’s) has acquired Great Kitchens Food Company from Brynwood Partners VIII L.P., creating North America’s premier vertically integrated pizza platform.

The deal merges Rich’s crust and dough leadership with Great Kitchens’ expertise in fully topped pizzas, including private-label take-and-bake lines and the iconic Uno Foods brand, adding deep-dish and handheld formats to Rich’s offerings.

Great Kitchens’ three facilities in Romeoville and Chicago Heights, Illinois, and Brockton, Massachusetts, bring 1,000 associates into Rich’s 13,000-strong global workforce across over 100 countries.

Rich’s US-Canada President Kevin Spratt called it transformative: “As a major player in the food industry for more than 80 years; when you combine Great Kitchens’ leadership in fully topped pizzas with our strength in crust and dough, you get a one-stop pizza partner with an unmatched breadth of expertise that will allow us to accelerate growth, drive greater innovation and deliver unique and distinct value to our customers.”

Great Kitchens CEO, Admir Basic, echoed: “Rich’s shares our commitment to innovation and delivering value for customers, making this partnership a natural fit. By merging our unique strengths, we have a huge opportunity to accelerate innovation and raise the bar across the industry.”

The expanded network optimises manufacturing for QSRs, grocers, and club stores in the US pizza market, where take-and-bake sales grow 7% annually amid rising convenience demands.

Rich’s, with over 80 years in non-dairy, bakery, and proteins, now dominates frozen and fresh pizza through enhanced capacity and R&D synergies, vital amid supply volatility driven by grain fluctuations and labour shortages.

Great Kitchens, acquired by Brynwood in 2023 alongside Uno Foods, specialized in private-label scalability and complemented Rich’s premium portfolio.

Terms undisclosed, the transaction closed recently, positioning Rich’s for category leadership as consumers favor versatile, ready-to-bake options.

This acquisition reflects consolidation in the frozen foods industry, where scale drives margins amid inflation.

Rich Products signaled confidence that the acquisition will strengthen its competitive position in a high‑volume, fast‑moving category and provide a platform for future growth in pizza solutions across retail and foodservice.

As pizza remains America’s favourite meal, the powerhouse eyes exports and innovations such as plant-based toppings.
