The new product is a mineral salt blend developed as a 1-to-1 replacement for regular salt, delivering a consistent 30% sodium reduction without requiring recipe changes or process adjustments, while preserving taste, functionality, and ease of use.

NETHERLANDS – Nedmag, a specialist in magnesium-based solutions, has launched Novasal Blend, a new mineral salt blend designed to make sodium reduction simple and practical for food manufacturers.
The product offers a direct, ready-to-use 1-to-1 replacement for regular table salt, enabling a consistent 30% reduction in sodium content without requiring recipe changes or complex process adjustments.
By combining traditional sodium chloride with the company’s proprietary magnesium salt, Novasal Pure, the blend provides a streamlined solution for producers aiming to meet health-focused sodium targets while preserving the taste, functionality, and technical performance of their products.
The development of Novasal Blend directly addresses one of the most significant barriers in the food industry: the cost and complexity of reformulation.
While many manufacturers are under increasing pressure from public health bodies, retailer targets, and nutritional profiling systems to lower salt levels in everyday foods, they often struggle to implement changes without sacrificing quality or altering existing manufacturing workflows.
As a direct 1-to-1 substitute, Novasal Blend removes these hurdles, enabling companies to act quickly on sodium-reduction initiatives across a range of categories, including bakery items, snacks, processed meats, and sauces.
Beyond sodium reduction, the ingredient offers a distinct nutritional advantage by replacing a portion of sodium with magnesium, an essential mineral with strong positive consumer appeal.
This shift not only supports healthier nutrition profiles but has also been shown to help food manufacturers improve product ratings on systems such as the Nutri-Score, which are increasingly influential in consumer purchasing decisions.
By providing a clean-label, effective alternative that performs exceptionally well in diverse applications, Nedmag is positioning its new blend as a pivotal tool for brands seeking to balance health goals with market-leading taste.
Willem-Jan Bakker, Business Development Manager for Food at Nedmag, noted that the launch represents the next step in making sodium reduction both practical and accessible.
With the product now readily available for both product development and commercial-scale production, industry analysts expect that its ease of application will facilitate faster implementation of health-conscious ingredient strategies across the global food sector.
Moving the Nutri-Score needle
The company points out that its wider Novasal range already has a commercial track record that illustrates what magnesium-based sodium reduction looks like in practice.
In speculaas, the traditional Dutch spiced biscuit, Nedmag says it replaced 40% of the sodium salt with Novasal magnesium salt, producing a reduced-sodium biscuit that remains balanced, flavorful, and true to its traditional character.
