The appointment of Spear signals a new chapter in the company’s leadership as it continues to expand its presence in the competitive North American snacking market.

USA – Nature’s Bakery, a leading snack brand and subsidiary of Mars, Inc., has announced the appointment of Lauren Spear as its new Chief Executive Officer and General Manager.
Spear succeeds Steve Gardiner, who departed the company in September 2025 to become CEO of Death Wish Coffee Co.
Nature’s Bakery, headquartered in Reno, Nevada, is widely recognized for its portfolio of plant-based, non-GMO snacks, including its flagship fig bars, brownie bars, and other wholesome products designed for on-the-go consumers.
Since its founding in 2011, the company has built a strong reputation for delivering better-for-you snacks that balance taste, convenience, and nutrition.
The appointment of Spear signals a new chapter in the company’s leadership as it continues to expand its presence in the competitive North American snacking market.
Spear brings extensive experience in consumer goods and food manufacturing, having held senior leadership roles within Mars, Inc. and other global organizations.
Spear most recently was vice president of Mars’ US snacking sales for Walmart, Sam’s and McLane.
Earlier, she was a sales director for Nestle Walmart beverages, baking, waters and global brands. She also spent many years in sales at Procter & Gamble.
Her expertise in brand strategy, operations, and innovation is expected to strengthen Nature’s Bakery’s growth trajectory and reinforce its mission of inspiring healthier snacking choices.
Industry observers note that her appointment reflects Mars’ commitment to investing in Nature’s Bakery as a cornerstone of its health and wellness portfolio.
In a statement, Spear expressed enthusiasm about her new role: “Nature’s Bakery has built a strong foundation rooted in quality, transparency, and consumer trust. I am honoured to lead this incredible team as we continue to expand our reach and deliver snacks that meet the evolving needs of today’s consumers.”
The leadership transition comes at a time when the snack industry is experiencing rapid growth, driven by increasing demand for plant-based, portion-controlled, and convenient products.
Nature’s Bakery has capitalized on these trends, with its products now widely available at major retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Costco, as well as on online platforms.
Outgoing CEO Steve Gardiner played a pivotal role in guiding Nature’s Bakery through its integration into Mars, Inc. and driving double-digit growth during his tenure.
His departure to lead Death Wish Coffee Co. underscores the strong reputation of Nature’s Bakery’s leadership team within the broader food and beverage industry.
With Spear at the helm, Nature’s Bakery is expected to continue its focus on innovation, sustainability, and consumer-centric growth, positioning itself as a leader in the better-for-you snack category.
The company is anticipated to unveil new product lines in 2026, reinforcing its commitment to delivering snacks that are both delicious and nourishing.
