This strategic move is part of Mantinga’s broader growth initiative to scale operations and meet increasing international demand for premium frozen bakery products.

EUROPE – Mantinga, one of Europe’s largest producers of baked goods, has recently boosted its production capacity with the installation of a customized Starfrost Spiral Freezing System, marking a significant advancement in its freezing process and automation.
This is the company’s fifth custom-built Helix Spiral Freezer supplied by Starfrost, a UK-based cooling solutions expert, underscoring a long-standing partnership that dates back over a decade.
The newly installed spiral freezer is specifically designed to freeze over one million garlic bread baguettes per week.
This advanced system now helps freeze 68 tons of bakery products daily across Mantinga’s production sites in Marijampole, Lithuania, enabling the company to meet growing global demand for its premium frozen bakery products.
Designed for high performance and energy efficiency, the Helix Spiral Freezer features advanced airflow technology and a hygienic stainless-steel structure.
It can handle 2 tons of product per hour, ensuring rapid freezing while preserving product quality and texture.
The system accommodates various product sizes and shapes, making it ideal for Mantinga’s diverse range of baked goods.
According to Kęstutis Košuba, Mantinga’s engineering manager, the transition from manual IQF (individual quick freezing) blast freezers to fully automated Starfrost spiral freezers began more than ten years ago.
The success of this initial project has driven further installations as Mantinga scaled up, and the newest freezer represents another step towards optimizing and automating their freezing processes.
The high-performance, energy-efficient system features a fully customized layout tailored to Mantinga’s specific production facility.
Operating 24 hours a day, it ensures rapid, uniform freezing, maintaining product integrity while supporting continuous, high-volume production.
Kęstutis Kosuba emphasized the minimal maintenance requirements of the latest system, including advanced draft-elimination measures that reduce the need for defrosting to once a week.
The defrosting, washing, and drying cycle takes only five to six hours, contributing to seamless, energy-efficient operations.
Beyond increasing freezing capacity, the new spiral freezer installation helps Mantinga introduce new production lines, reduce energy costs, and maximize production space.
The company currently exports over 1 billion products to more than 40 countries, and the expanded freezing capacity will help maintain quality standards while increasing output.
With four other Starfrost Helix spiral freezers already integrated into its operations, Mantinga enjoys a fully automated freezing process that is reliable, efficient, and crucial for maintaining its position as a major player in the global bakery market.
In conclusion, the customized Starfrost Spiral Freezing System has enabled Mantinga to expand production and streamline freezing operations significantly.
This investment supports Mantinga’s strategy for global growth while ensuring high-quality, rapid freezing of bakery products to meet increasing demand worldwide.
