Lotus Bakeries scales global snacking platform with major Biscoff factory expansion in Belgium

The groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of a new production hall that will significantly increase output capacity at the Belgian site, which already serves as the company’s primary Biscoff manufacturing hub for Europe.

BELGIUM – Lotus Bakeries, the multinational snacking group, has officially broken ground on a major expansion of its principal manufacturing headquarters in Lembeke, East Flanders.

The industrial development project centers on the construction of an additional high-capacity production hall engineered specifically to boost output of the company’s flagship caramelized biscuit brand, Biscoff, as global consumer demand continues to outpace current manufacturing thresholds.

The groundbreaking ceremony, led by Chief Executive Officer Jan Boone, marks a significant infrastructure upgrade at a site that has anchored the company’s production know-how for over ninety years.

The historic Lembeke facility already holds distinction as the largest specialized single-product cookie production site in Europe.

The newly initiated expansion is scheduled to achieve complete mechanical completion and begin shipping commercial volumes within the next two years, systematically reinforcing the Belgian facility’s role as the primary supply chain hub for the broader European marketplace.

This strategic capital allocation follows a highly successful period of financial trading for the group. In its full-year 2025 financial disclosure, Lotus Bakeries posted a 10% increase in total group revenue to €1.35 billion (US$1.564B), paired with a 13% surge in operating profit to €227.6 million (US$263.81M).

The stellar performance was predominantly driven by the international expansion of the Biscoff brand, which delivered a 13% organic sales increase to €670 million (US$776.41M), effectively accounting for 57% of the group’s total branded revenue.

To sustain this momentum, corporate leadership has outlined an aggressive €250 million (US$289.71M) capital expenditure budget spanning 2026 and 2027, prioritizing global capacity investments.

While the Lembeke expansion shores up the group’s European supply chain, it operates as part of a highly coordinated, tri-continental manufacturing network designed to limit logistical friction, reduce carbon footprints, and mitigate geographic supply chain dependencies.

Outside of Europe, the group manages a high-volume facility in Mebane, North Carolina, to satisfy intense North American retail demand, alongside a new greenfield production plant in Chonburi, Thailand, which is on track to reach full operational scale by June 2026 to support accelerating volume growth across the Asia-Pacific region.

To ensure long-term harmony with the local municipality, the modern production hall is built using advanced low-noise insulation technologies.

The infrastructure layout also includes a massive environmental integration program comprising extensive landscaping, tree replanting, and the creation of nearly 1 hectare of dedicated green space surrounding the corporate campus, balancing aggressive commercial scaling with strict environmental stewardship.
