These puffs come in two varieties: Cowboy Cheddar and Blazin’ Hot Cheddar, the latter being a spicy option for those who enjoy heat.
USA – LesserEvil is entering a new product category with the launch of Cheezmos—cheese puffs made with organic avocado oil and real organic cheddar.
Like all LesserEvil products, Cheezmos are USDA Organic, non-GMO, and minimally processed. Both varieties are free from artificial dyes, preservatives, and seed oils.
“Cheese puffs are one of the most iconic and nostalgic snacks, but they often contain ingredients that many of us try to avoid. Cheezmos take that classic experience and clean it up without compromising on taste. They’re cheesy, crunchy, and snackable, made with real ingredients that are as good for you as they taste,” said Charles Coristine, president and CEO of LesserEvil.
Cheezmos have a suggested retail price of US$5.99 for a 7-ounce bag and are available at Whole Foods Market starting this month, with availability at Kroger stores nationwide beginning in September.
LesserEvil is an American snack company based in Danbury, Connecticut, founded in 2004. The company produces a range of packaged snack products, including pre-popped popcorn, puffs, curls, and other extruded snacks, all made with healthier ingredients.
The company positions its products as healthy alternatives, many of which are made with coconut oil or avocado oil.
In April 2022, LesserEvil acquired R.E.D.D. Bar, a maker of energy bars. The following year, the company sold a “significant minority” stake in the business to Aria Growth Partners in order to enhance its manufacturing and retail distribution capabilities.
According to the Hartford Business Journal, LesserEvil was projected to generate nearly US$100 million in revenue in 2023 and was recognized as one of the largest producers of organic snacks in the U.S.
In April, Hershey, the Pennsylvania-based snacking giant, announced plans to purchase LesserEvil for an undisclosed amount. This transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close later this year.
Hershey has been focused on acquiring unique snack brands such as popcorn, puffs, and pretzels instead of traditional chips, seeking out distinctive flavor profiles and technologies that can be applied to its other products.
LesserEvil fits well into this strategy, offering what Hershey describes as “interesting and bold flavors,” including Himalayan Pink Salt Paleo Puffs, Oh My Ghee! Popcorn, Sugar Cookie Popcorn, and Avocado-Licious Organic Popcorn.
