Herr Foods elevates Troy Gunden to CEO

In his new dual role as President and CEO, Gunden will oversee all company operations while continuing to shape Herr’s strategic direction.

USA – Herr Foods Inc., the iconic Pennsylvania-based snack company, has officially appointed Troy Gunden as Chief Executive Officer, ushering in a new era of third-generation leadership.

The transition follows the retirement of longtime CEO Ed Herr, who now assumes the role of Executive Chairman of the Board.

Gunden, a grandson of company founder James S. Herr, began his career at Herr’s 21 years ago as a route salesperson in West Chester, a role he still calls his favorite.

Over the past two decades, he has held multiple leadership positions, most recently serving as President for six years.

In his new dual role as President and CEO, Gunden will oversee all company operations while continuing to shape Herr’s strategic direction.

“Leading Herr’s has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” said Ed Herr.

“I am deeply proud of the growth we’ve achieved and the strong culture we’ve built together. With Troy’s leadership, I am confident Herr’s will continue to thrive for generations to come.”

Founded in 1946, Herr Foods has evolved from a small family-owned business into one of the most recognised snack brands in the U.S., renowned for its chips, cheese curls, pretzels, and popcorn.

The company remains headquartered in Nottingham, Pennsylvania, where its factory tours offer visitors a taste of fresh chips straight off the line.

Gunden’s appointment comes as Herr’s prepares to open a new Cheese Curls production facility in Jackson, Ohio, a move that signals continued investment in innovation and regional expansion.

The leadership transition also reflects Herr’s commitment to preserving its family-led legacy while adapting to evolving consumer tastes and market dynamics.

“I am humbled and excited to step into this role,” said Gunden.

“Herr’s is more than a company, it’s a family, a legacy, and a commitment to our employees, customers, and community. I look forward to building on the foundation my grandparents and the 2nd generation created, as we continue to deliver the snacks people love and trust.”

With Gunden at the helm, Herr Foods is expected to blend tradition with transformation, reinforcing its position as a trusted name in snacks while exploring new growth opportunities across the U.S.
