Completed in just 11 months, the new facility boasts a production capacity of 4,500 tons per day
IRAQ – Iraq’s Prime Minister Eng. Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani has inaugurated a major flour milling project by Etihad Group, marking a significant milestone in the country’s agri-industrial development.
Completed in just 11 months, the new facility boasts a production capacity of 4,500 tons per day, making it one of the largest and most rapidly completed milling plants in the Middle East.
“Today, with the determination of Etihad Group, one of the pillars of the private industrial sector in Iraq, by the grace of God, they have succeeded in completing the flour mill,” Prime Minister Al-Sudani said during the official opening in Al-Madhatiya, Babil Province.
The new mill forms part of a broader industrial ecosystem developed by Etihad Food Industries, which includes sugar refining, vegetable oil production, animal feed, corn processing, and premix facilities, all located on the same campus. This vertical integration enables the group to streamline production, cut costs, and stabilize supply chains.
The state-of-the-art mill features six modern production lines and a high-capacity grain storage system, with the ability to hold up to 1.8 million tons supplied by Swiss firm Bühler.
According to the company, the facility will manufacture various flour types, white, whole wheat, semolina, and double-zero flour, suitable for a range of uses including baking, pasta, and confectionery production.
Products will be packaged in consumer and bulk formats, ranging from 1 kg bags to 50 kg sacks. Quality assurance is maintained through in-house laboratories, ensuring compliance with Iraqi and international food safety standards.
With Iraq traditionally importing over 90% of its flour, the mill is expected to significantly reduce import dependence, ease pressure on foreign reserves, and enhance food security. The facility also adds to Iraq’s employment capacity, contributing to job creation in both operational and logistics roles.
“This project stands as a new national landmark,” Etihad Group stated. “We are proud of these words and continue to give for the good of Iraq and its progress.”
The mill complements Iraq’s strategic push for industrial self-sufficiency, positioning Etihad as a critical player in the country’s long-term food resilience.
