Crown Bakeries expands reach in packaged pastry market with acquisition of Golden Dough Bakeries

The acquisition aligns with Crown Bakeries’ long-term strategy to expand its market share by adding distinctive brands and products.

USA – Crown Bakeries, a leading U.S. baked goods manufacturer, has acquired Golden Dough Bakeries & Co., a Winter Park, Florida-based producer of packaged pastries for wholesale, retail, and foodservice channels.

This strategic move marks a significant milestone for Crown Bakeries as it strengthens its foothold in the packaged baked foods sector across wholesale, retail, and foodservice channels.

Golden Dough Bakeries was founded in 2021 by Wil Torres, a seasoned consumer packaged goods executive known for scaling brands like RxBar, PopCorners, and Krispy Kreme.

With the acquisition, Torres joins Crown Bakeries as Chief Development Officer, bringing deep expertise in brand building and factory-to-shelf innovation.

Crown Bakeries, backed by private equity firm Arbor Investments, operates nine production facilities across the U.S. and produces over 7 million baked items daily.

Its product portfolio spans croissants, buns, English muffins, biscuits, bagels, rolls, frozen dough, artisan bread, sweet goods and pastries.

The acquisition aligns with Crown Bakeries’ long-term strategy to expand its market share by adding distinctive brands and products characterized by innovation, quality, and consumer convenience.

It also reflects broader industry trends emphasizing safety, extended shelf life, and premium offerings in packaged bakery goods.

Golden Dough specializes in individually packed yeast-raised donuts and other pastries, offering tailored solutions for retail and foodservice clients.

The integration into Crown’s platform is expected to accelerate product development and expand distribution, especially in convenience and grab-and-go formats.

The acquisition follows Crown’s announcement of a new high-speed bun production line at its Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin facility, part of a broader investment strategy that includes upgrades in Philadelphia, Lawrence (Massachusetts), Nashville, and Smyrna (Georgia).

Last month, Crown Bakeries promoted Brandon Waters to director of foodservice national accounts, to lead a team while still managing National Food Service Accounts and taking on broader duties in regional food service, targeted distribution channels, and niche markets.

Additionally, Andrew Boyer joined as Chief Commercial Officer, signaling a renewed focus on strategic growth and commercial agility.

With Golden Dough now under its umbrella, Crown Bakeries is poised to deepen its footprint in the packaged pastry space, enhance its innovative pipeline, and deliver on its promise of quality, scale, and speed.
