The ingredient, Verdad Essence WH150, provides formulators with a natural preservation solution that helps maintain product freshness while supporting taste and texture.

NETHERLANDS – Corbion has officially expanded its natural preservation portfolio through the launch of Verdad® Essence WH150, a specialized cultured wheat ingredient designed to tackle mold spoilage in bakery products.
The new solution addresses key operational and formulation challenges for commercial bakeries, helping manufacturers extend mold-free shelf life while safeguarding essential product attributes such as taste, aroma, and crumb texture.
The announcement builds on the company’s earlier Verdad Essence WH100 launch and adds another option to its clean-label preservation lineup for the bakery industry.
Developed through advanced fermentation technology, the clean-label ingredient responds to growing global consumer demand for transparent ingredient lists and longer-lasting packaged baked goods without artificial preservatives.
Post-baking mold contamination remains one of the primary drivers of commercial food waste and consumer product returns within the global baking industry.
By incorporating Verdad® Essence WH150 into formulations for white and wheat breads, buns, flatbreads, and tortillas, bakeries gain greater flexibility to tailor their preservation systems to specific shelf-life target windows.
The ingredient is supplied as a powder and labelled as cultured wheat or fermented wheat, supporting clean-label formulation objectives.
The cultured wheat platform acts as a drop-in natural inhibitor, providing a reliable alternative to traditional synthetic preservatives like calcium propionate while preventing early spoilage caused by common mold species.
Corbion’s Verdad Essence WH150 utilizes the company’s expertise in fermentation, preservation science, and bakery applications.
The ingredient aims to help manufacturers advance bakery product NPD or optimize existing formulations with preservation strategies aligned with their commercial objectives.
According to Corbion leadership, the release reflects the company’s broader effort to pair bio-based preservation ingredients with predictive data modeling and deep application support.
Lonneke van Dijk, Global Business Director for Bakery at Corbion, emphasized that bakers require functional solutions that deliver dependable performance while maintaining the sensory standards consumers expect.
In addition to the physical product, Corbion utilizes digital predictive tools, such as the Corbion Natural Mold Inhibition Model, to assist research and development teams in calculating expected preservation outcomes early in the formulation phase, accelerating commercialization and minimizing trial-and-error risks.
The introduction of Verdad® Essence WH150 aligns with larger supply chain imperatives focused on reducing global food loss and optimizing distribution efficiency for packaged foods.
By extending the shelf life of staple grain products, food manufacturers can expand their distribution geographic footprints, lower returned goods costs, and minimize domestic food waste at the household level.
The company confirmed that Verdad® Essence WH150 is now available through Corbion’s bakery solutions portfolio in select global markets, with rollouts progressing across key industrial baking hubs.
