INDIA – Cargill, in collaboration with Saatvik Agro, has inaugurated a new corn milling plant in Gwalior, marking a significant milestone in India’s food processing sector.
This facility, the first-of-its-kind partnership between Cargill and Saatvik Agro, reinforces Cargill’s commitment to advancing India’s agro-processing industry and supporting the nation’s growing demand for high-quality corn-based products.
The inauguration ceremony was led by John Fering, Group President, Foods APAC, alongside Ade, Nitish, and the Cargill South Asia Foods Leadership Team, who unveiled key sections of the facility. The plant is designed to enhance the efficiency and innovation in corn milling, ensuring the production of premium ingredients used in food and industrial applications.
Simon George, President of Cargill India, emphasized the strategic importance of this collaboration. “This partnership underscores our vision to build world-class food processing infrastructure in India. By integrating global expertise with local capabilities, we aim to enhance the industry’s growth and deliver superior products to our customers,” he stated.
Even though specific details regarding the production capacity, size, and investment of the newly inaugurated corn milling plant have not been disclosed, Cargill has made significant investments in India’s agro-processing sector over the years.
In 2016, the company inaugurated a US$100 million wet corn milling plant in Davangere, Karnataka, spanning 44.5 acres and with a daily milling capacity of 800 tonnes of corn. This facility plays a critical role in meeting the country’s demand for starches, sweeteners, and feed ingredients.
Further expanding its infrastructure, Cargill launched its first corn silo in India in 2019, also in Davangere. The US$10 million facility boasts a storage capacity of 60,000 tonnes, improving supply chain efficiency and reducing post-harvest losses.
These developments highlight Cargill’s long-term commitment to strengthening India’s food and agriculture sector through sustainable and innovative solutions.
For this facility, Cargill aims to support India’s agricultural ecosystem by integrating global expertise with local capabilities.
India’s food processing sector has been rapidly expanding, driven by increasing demand for processed food, government incentives, and advancements in technology. This new plant will contribute to the sector’s growth by increasing efficiency in corn milling, reducing post-harvest losses, and creating value-added products for domestic and international markets.
Beyond economic benefits, the new facility is expected to generate employment opportunities in Gwalior and surrounding areas, fostering local entrepreneurship and skill development
