Cargill named Top 10 innovator at 2026 BIG Innovation Awards

The recognition highlights Cargill’s enterprise-wide innovation strategy, which integrates automation, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and predictive analytics into core operations.

USACargill has been named a winner in the 2026 BIG Innovation Awards and designated as a Top 10 Innovator by the Business Intelligence Group, in recognition of its approach to innovation across the global food and agriculture system.

The company was honored in the Innovative Organizations category, joining a cohort of 159 companies, products and leaders recognized for applied innovation and measurable real-world impact across multiple industries.

The recognition highlights Cargill’s enterprise-wide innovation strategy, which integrates automation, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and predictive analytics into core operations.

According to the Business Intelligence Group, these technologies are being deployed to address structural challenges facing the global food system, including food security, climate change, labor availability and operational waste, while delivering quantifiable business and sustainability outcomes.

Among the cited results was a 30-fold return on investment achieved through Cargill’s Port Optimizer initiative, a digital platform that uses advanced analytics to improve vessel scheduling and port operations.

The company also reported more than US$ 15 million in documented benefits from manufacturing analytics, alongside a reduction of 31,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions in 2024, attributed to vessel optimization and energy-saving upgrades across its operations.

Innovation at Cargill is not just about what’s next, it’s about what’s needed,” said Florian Schattenmann, chief technology officer at Cargill.

By embedding AI and advanced analytics in our operations, we are reimagining the way food is made and moved across the globe. This recognition reflects the ingenuity of our teams and the power of innovation to build a more resilient and efficient food system for the future,” he added.

Judges for the BIG Innovation Awards described Cargill’s efforts as serious, large-scale innovation executed with discipline, embedded deeply into real operations.

They further noted that the company’s approach spans multiple technologies and business lines, underpinned by strong data governance and clear performance outcomes, rather than isolated pilot projects.

Port congestion, freight volatility and energy costs remain persistent concerns for grain exporters and processors, making predictive analytics and automation increasingly relevant to operational resilience.

The 2026 BIG Innovation Awards winners show that true innovation is no longer about chasing the latest buzzwords,” said Russ Fordyce, chief recognition officer at the Business Intelligence Group.

It’s about building intelligent platforms, automating workflows with purpose, and making trust, privacy and resilience the foundation of every breakthrough. These organizations and leaders are not just keeping pace with change, they are shaping the future of global business.”

The 2026 BIG Innovation Awards program recognizes companies, products and individuals that are reshaping markets across sectors ranging from health and financial services to logistics, manufacturing and enterprise technology.
