Bühler SA expands presence in Madagascar with inaugural customer day

Bühler already has an established footprint in Madagascar in the wheat milling, animal feed, and chocolate processing industries.

MADAGASCAR – Buhler Southern Africa has strengthened its foothold in the region after successfully hosting its first-ever customer day in Madagascar.

The event, held in early September at the Radisson Blu Hotel at the Waterfront in Antananarivo, brought together key stakeholders from the rice, pulses, and spice industries, alongside representatives from government initiatives focused on food security and industrialisation.

From our Johannesburg office, we focus on the entire Southern Africa region. Each country has specific strategies and initiatives based on its market potential and requirements,” said Nombulelo Mzizi, Channel Partner Manager, Bühler Southern Africa.

Mzizi noted that the gathering marked Bühler’s debut in Madagascar, providing an opportunity to engage directly with customers, better understand their challenges, and introduce tailored solutions.

Madagascar is a key focus country for us, particularly in rice, spices, and pulses, which are central to our expansion strategy,” she added.

The event showcased Bühler’s cleaning, grinding, and packaging solutions for key commodities. In rice, the company supports cleaning, hulling, polishing, and sorting processes, while for spices and pulses, Bühler technologies serve both seed spices such as black, pink, and wild pepper, as well as root spices including ginger, turmeric, and red chilli.

Beyond these segments, Bühler has already built a presence in Madagascar’s wheat milling, animal feed, and chocolate processing industries, where its technologies help processors maintain quality and efficiency from harvest through to packaging.

The company underlined its commitment to customer support through dedicated sales and service teams in South Africa and its partnership with a local Madagascar-based agent.

This approach, Mzizi explained, enhances visibility while ensuring customers benefit from Bühler’s global expertise. Remote support tools such as BühlerVision, an augmented reality-based service platform, also allow customers to access technical expertise without requiring on-site visits.

Engagement with policymakers formed another core theme of the event. “Understanding regulations, export restrictions, and development goals is crucial. For example, while rice is not currently open for export, potential government changes could create major new opportunities for our customers,” Mzizi said.

Participants welcomed the direct interaction with Bühler experts and expressed interest in future engagements. According to Mzizi, the event generated valuable leads, with several significant projects expected to develop over time.
