BoMill AB, GrainSense Oy secure US$ 1.5M funding to revolutionize grain sorting technology in Europe

EUROPE  – Swedish company BoMill AB and Finnish firm GrainSense Oy have been awarded funding from Eurostars, a European Union funding program, to develop a cutting-edge, high-precision automated grain quality sorting and monitoring system.

With an estimated budget of EUR 1.45 million (US$1.5M), the initiative is part of the EU’s Horizon Europe initiative and is set to transform the way grain quality is analyzed and sorted on a large scale.

The project is expected to last 18 months, and will be partially funded by grants from Vinnova, Sweden’s innovation agency, and Business Finland, the Finnish government organization for innovation funding.

BoMill AB, a leader in grain sorting technology, will receive SEK 5 million (US$456,755) as part of the grant. The funding will support the integration of BoMill’s advanced grain sorting solutions with GrainSense’s innovative near-infrared (NIR) sensor technology.

Together, the two companies aim to create a system that enhances the efficiency, accuracy, and affordability of grain quality analysis for large-scale agricultural operations.

GrainSense Oy, based in Helsinki, is renowned for its patented NIR sensor technology, which provides real-time analysis of grain quality parameters such as protein, moisture, oil, and carbohydrate content.

The compact and cost-effective nature of GrainSense’s technology has made it a game-changer in the agricultural sector, enabling farmers and processors to make data-driven decisions quickly and efficiently.

By combining BoMill’s expertise in grain sorting with GrainSense’s advanced sensing capabilities, the two companies aim to develop a system that can handle large volumes of grain while maintaining high precision in quality assessment.

This collaboration is expected to address key challenges in the agricultural industry, including the need for faster, more accurate grain sorting and the growing demand for high-quality grains in global markets.

Andreas Jeppsson, CEO of BoMill AB, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. “Our combined efforts will pave the way for a new era in grain sorting. This project represents a significant leap forward in our ability to deliver precise, automated solutions that meet the needs of modern agriculture,” he said.

Riku Niemelä, CEO of GrainSense Oy, echoed this sentiment, adding that the EU funding will allow both companies to push the boundaries of grain sorting technology.

By leveraging our NIR sensor technology and BoMill’s sorting expertise, we can create a system that not only improves efficiency but also ensures consistent grain quality for end-users,” he noted.
