Flour Mills of Ghana Limited donates medical equipment as part of its CSR initiatives

GHANA – Flour Mills of Ghana Limited (FMGL), producers of Sankofa flour and feeds, has significantly bolstered healthcare services in Tema by donating essential medical equipment to the newly constructed Children’s Ward of the Tema Polyclinic.

The donation includes an incubator, a radiant warmer, phototherapy machines, oxygen cylinders, nebulizers, an antepartum monitor, mattresses, wheelchairs, televisions, and refrigerators, aiming to enhance pediatric care and reduce child mortality in the community.

At the presentation ceremony, FMGL’s General Manager, Bianca Kuipers, emphasized the company’s commitment to making a tangible impact beyond its business operations.

We recognize that our responsibility goes beyond our business. We want to make a meaningful difference, and what better way than to support a place where young lives are nurtured and cared for by dedicated medical professionals,” she stated.

FMGL, an affiliate of Seaboard Overseas and Trading Group, is the largest supplier of feed to the largest poultry farms in Ghana. Under Seaboard’s guidance, FMGL also operates as a trading company, dealing in commodities such as soybean meal and animal feed inputs with various local farmers and distributors.

Seaboard comprises uniquely integrated companies with a broad global presence, operating, trading, and shipping offices in 26 countries.

The donation is part of FMGL’s corporate social responsibility initiatives to support the communities where it operates. The Tema Polyclinic, located in Community 2, serves as the primary healthcare center for residents and neighboring areas.

However, its Children’s Ward had remained non-operational due to a lack of furnishings and equipment, leading to the admission of sick children in adult wards, which are often overstretched and expose young patients to various health risks, including infectious diseases from adult patients.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the management and staff, the Medical Superintendent of Tema Polyclinic, Dr. Lenusia Ahlijah, commended FMGL for exceeding their expectations.

“When you reached out to us for our needs, we shared them with you, and you went above and beyond. You even included televisions and microwaves for the children’s comfort, which will contribute to their recovery process,” she said.
