Angel Yeast awarded EcoVadis Silver Medal, ranking among top 15% globally for CSR

CHINA – Angel Yeast Co., Ltd., a leading global yeast and biotech firm headquartered in Yichang, Hubei, has earned the prestigious EcoVadis Silver Medal for 2025, placing it among the top 15% of assessed companies worldwide and top 6% in the “Manufacture of Other Food Products” sector.

Announced in December 2025, this achievement, with a score of 71/100, up 11 points from 2024, marks an “Advanced” level in corporate social responsibility (CSR), reflecting five years of rigorous audits across environment, labor & human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.

The recognition from the trusted EcoVadis platform, which evaluates over 100,000 firms against international standards such as the UN Global Compact, underscores Angel Yeast’s trajectory toward sustainability leadership in the US$50 billion yeast industry.

Angel Yeast excelled in environmental performance (top 8% in industry), leveraging ISO 14001 certification, biomass fuels, renewable energy procurement, and verified Scope 1 & 2 emissions reporting to cut carbon footprints amid global net-zero pressures.

Labour & human rights ranked in the top 6%, boosted by ISO 45001, anti-discrimination policies, skills training, health & safety protocols, and regular employee satisfaction surveys that foster family-friendly workplaces.

Ethics scored in the top 15% with anti-corruption training, whistleblower channels, and zero audit violations, while sustainable procurement led the top 2% via supplier codes of conduct, audits, and incentives that align the value chain with UNGC goals.

This milestone aligns with Angel Yeast’s “Innovate for Healthy Life” vision, powering its operations across yeast baking, extracts, nutrition, and biotech for 170+ countries through 12 subsidiaries.

Practical gains include 210,500 tons of COD reduction, 29,000 tons of water savings, and 13,500 tons fewer carbon emissions in recent years, per its 2024 Sustainability Report, alongside 772 R&D experts driving green innovations like yeast protein lines.

The firm, a UNGC signatory, integrates CSR into competitiveness, from poverty alleviation to post-disaster aid, enhancing brand value at 27.97 billion yuan (US$4.01B).

EcoVadis’s methodology provides actionable insights for Angel Yeast’s next phase, targeting Gold status amid rising stakeholder demands for traceable, eco-friendly ingredients in baking and savoury applications.

As biotech reshapes food security, this Silver Medal positions the company ahead, blending profitability with planetary stewardship in a consolidating market.
