Akona launches Rotary Batch Mixer for gentle dry‑blending applications

The launch expands Akona’s mixing and blending portfolio with a batch solution engineered for consistent blend quality, gentle material handling, and simplified sanitation across dry bulk processing environments.

USA – Akona Process Solutions, a global leader in material handling and processing technology, has launched its new Rotary Batch Mixer, a shaft‑free industrial blender designed to deliver precise, low‑shear mixing for dry bulk powders and granules.

The mixer uses a gravity‑driven rotary tumbling action rather than internal paddles or agitators, making it especially suitable for fragile, friable, or heat‑sensitive materials where particle integrity and blend uniformity are critical.

The Rotary Batch Mixer is engineered to reduce mechanical complexity by eliminating submerged shafts and seals, which Akona says cuts maintenance requirements and speeds sanitation between batches.

Its internal mixing flights promote consistent blending in short cycle times, while allowing for near‑complete discharge and minimal product residue, supporting higher uptime and improved batch‑to‑batch repeatability.

The unit is available in multiple capacities and can be outfitted with options such as liquid‑spray systems for coating or flavour addition, load cells for batch‑weight verification, dust‑tight valves, and PLC‑ready controls for integration into automated production lines.

Akona positions the Rotary Batch Mixer as a practical upgrade for manufacturers in the food, bakery, nutritionals, coffee, spice blends, agricultural products, plastics, and chemical‑powder sectors, seeking predictable blend performance with simpler cleaning and maintenance.

According to Matt Banowetz, VP Engineering and Product Development at Akona Process Solutions: “From an engineering standpoint, the Rotary Batch Mixer was designed to remove common sources of maintenance and variability found in traditional batch mixers. By relying on controlled vessel rotation and internal mixing flights, we’re able to deliver consistent blending while reducing mechanical complexity, cleaning time and product loss.”

The company highlights that the design builds on its established Marion mixing‑technology platform, combining durable construction with straightforward mechanics to support continuous operation in demanding bulk‑processing environments.

The new Akona mixer builds on the established performance of Marion mixing technology, combining durable construction with straightforward mechanical design to deliver reliable batch blending with minimal downtime.

The mixer was officially introduced in late April 2026, with Akona marketing it as a solution for processors looking to reduce downtime and achieve more consistent, gentle blending of dry materials.

In June 2025, Kason Corporation, now part of the newly formed brand Akona Process Solutions and a leader in screening, sifting, and processing equipment, introduced an innovative design in circular screening technology: Precision-Flo.
