ADM to fund 184,000 school meals for students at Starehe Girls’ Centre
The ADM Cares programme will provide more than 184,000 meals to over 200 students at Starehe Girls’ Centre and School over the next academic year.
KENYA – ADM Cares, the corporate social investment programme of ADM, will provide more than 184,000 nutritious meals to over 200 students at Starehe Girls’ Centre and School, Kenya, helping meet the school’s meal needs for a full academic year.
The support will allow the students to receive three meals a day throughout the year. ADM said the programme aims to reduce financial pressure on the institution while supporting student wellbeing and learning outcomes.
The company selected Starehe Girls’ Centre because it provides education and accommodation to academically strong students from low-income backgrounds. Nearly 70% of the students receive full sponsorship.
Research has consistently linked school feeding programmes with improved concentration, classroom participation and learning outcomes. Access to regular and balanced meals helps students stay focused in class and reduces distractions linked to hunger.
“At ADM, we believe that access to good nutrition is fundamental to learning and growth. Supporting Starehe Girls’ Centre means investing in the future of these young women and the broader community,” said Herbert Pohle, Vice President, Middle East and Africa, Animal Nutrition at ADM.
“We’re proud to help ensure that every student can focus on her studies without worrying about her next meal,” he added.
The initiative extends beyond meal support. ADM will also offer job-shadowing opportunities to expose students to different career paths. In addition, the company’s animal nutrition team will lead the restoration of a fish pond at the school, creating practical learning opportunities while improving an important school resource.
Starehe Girls’ Centre Director Sr. Jane Soita welcomed the support.
“We are grateful to ADM for their generous support. This contribution will enable us to provide nutritious meals for our students throughout the year, ensuring they are well nourished and able to focus on their schoolwork. It is truly humbling to receive this kind of support, and we remain thankful to ADM for empowering our girls,” she said.
The announcement comes days after ADM expanded its Farm Forward programme in India through a partnership with TechnoServe.
ADM committed US$500,000 through ADM Cares to support 15,000 soybean farmers across four districts in Maharashtra over the next 18 months.
The programme will focus on soil health, climate resilience, digital farm support and stronger farmer organisations, further highlighting the company’s growing investment in education, nutrition and community development initiatives.
