ADM completes US$76 million expansion of grain terminal in Canada

The project began in early 2024 in partnership with Transport Canada and was supported by funding from the National Trade Corridors Fund.

CANADA – ADM Agri-Industries has completed the expansion of its grain terminal at Port Windsor, Ontario, a project designed to enhance export capacity and bolster agricultural trade from southwestern Ontario to international markets.

The completion was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 4.

The US$76 million investment, supported by up to US$26.3 million from Canada’s National Trade Corridors Fund, adds significant infrastructure to enhance grain and oilseed handling. The project began in early 2024 in partnership with Transport Canada.

The expansion includes modern grain dryers, a new roadway and kiosk system for loading soybean and canola meal, increased meal storage at the ADM crush plant, and newly built silos with upgraded conveyance systems to streamline the loading of grain and meal for export. These improvements are designed to ensure more efficient handling of agricultural commodities, supporting the growth of local farming and trade.

ADM confirmed that the expanded terminal will serve farmers in Essex, Kent, Lambton, Middlesex, and Elgin counties, handling soybeans, canola, and corn. The expanded facility will connect these growers more effectively to buyers in Europe, the United States, and Latin America.

This expansion offers multiple beneficial effects on the local economy, including increasing demand for locally grown products, supporting and growing the regional transportation industry, and contributing to increased use of marine logistics. We want to thank Transport Canada and the National Trade Corridors Fund for their support of this expansion project and their investment in Windsor, Ontario,”said Kevin Wright, general manager of ADM Great Lakes Region.

The added capacity is expected to deliver broad supply chain benefits by opening new export opportunities and promoting marine transport as a cost-efficient and sustainable means of moving large volumes of grain and meal overseas.

ADM is recognized as the largest grain handling company in North America, according to Sosland Publishing Co.’s 2025 Grain & Milling Annual. The company operates 355 grain storage facilities with a combined licensed capacity of 434.34 million bushels. Its broad infrastructure network enables ADM to connect agricultural producers with global markets while maintaining consistent supply reliability.

The Port Windsor expansion reflects ADM’s ongoing strategy to invest in infrastructure that enhances its service to both growers and end markets. By improving export capabilities and logistics efficiency, the project strengthens the role of southwestern Ontario as a contributor to international grain and oilseed supply.
