ADM commits US$103M to modernize Decatur processing hub
The investment will upgrade soybean and corn processing facilities, create new jobs and support a wider effort to improve the company’s North American operations.
USA – ADM will invest US$103 million to upgrade key processing facilities at its North American headquarters in Decatur, Illinois, as the company works to improve production capacity and strengthen its operations.
The investment, announced by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, will create 50 full time jobs while keeping more than 1,000 existing positions at the site.
ADM operates one of the world’s largest integrated agricultural processing hubs in Decatur, where it turns corn and soybeans into ingredients, fuels and nutrition products for food, beverage and industrial markets around the world.
The project will improve facilities at the company’s west and east soybean plants and its corn wet mill. ADM will replace aging control systems with modern technology across the site.
The company said the work will improve soybean crushing and refining operations while supporting the production of soy protein isolate, textured vegetable protein and other protein ingredients. It will also improve storage elevators and corn milling operations. ADM plans to replace more than 40,000 input and output modules together with related control systems, allowing better equipment monitoring, less unplanned downtime and stronger production performance.
“With more than 4,000 colleagues based here, Decatur represents ADM’s largest footprint and employee population, making it a vital hub that helps connect US farmers with markets and customers around the world,” said Chris Cuddy, president, North America and Carbohydrate Solutions at ADM.
“Investments like this strengthen our ability to support customers, drive economic growth, and reinforce Illinois’ leadership in agriculture. Programs like EDGE play an important role in keeping Illinois competitive and fostering continued growth, and they would not be possible without the vision and support of Governor Pritzker.”
The State of Illinois will support the investment through its Economic Development for a Growing Economy, or EDGE, program, which aims to encourage business expansion and job creation across the state.
The Decatur project adds to ADM’s wider efforts to improve its processing network and increase reliability across its manufacturing sites.
By updating key equipment and production systems, the company aims to support customer demand while improving efficiency across its soybean and corn processing operations.
