ARYZTA expands Asia-Pacific footprint with US$46.4M bakery in Australia

The facility is designed to support growing demand for bakery products in Western Australia while bringing production closer to major customers.

AUSTRALIA – Switzerland-based ARYZTA AG has officially opened a state-of-the-art baking facility in Perth, Western Australia, marking a major multi-million-dollar expansion in the Asia-Pacific market.

The new facility, representing a €40 million (US$46.4 million) capital investment, stands as the region’s first major industrial bakery development in over two decades.

Located in the Peel Business Park precinct, the manufacturing plant significantly expands ARYZTA’s operational capacity to supply quick-service restaurant (QSR) partners, retail grocers, and commercial foodservice channels across Australia and neighbouring export markets.

The facility is specifically engineered to strengthen local supply chain resilience while supporting the rapid market growth of convenience and in-store bakery goods.

Previously, ARYZTA relied heavily on long-distance logistics to transport frozen baked items to Western Australian consumers from its primary manufacturing hubs in Victoria and New South Wales.

By shifting to localized production, the company can now deliver both fresh and frozen baked goods directly to regional customers.

This operational shift eliminates an estimated 1.7 million food miles annually and reduces ARYZTA’s local transport carbon emissions by more than 700 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year.

Beyond operational efficiencies, the Perth plant features modern eco-friendly infrastructure. The site operates primarily on power generated by a localized renewable energy microgrid, integrating rooftop solar panels with high-capacity battery storage systems.

The plant also relies on local agricultural supply chains, sourcing Australian wheat flour, dairy, and sugar to minimize upstream environmental impacts while supporting regional farmers and agribusiness suppliers.

The expansion boosts the regional economy by creating approximately 80 direct manufacturing jobs at the Perth site, along with an estimated 500 indirect jobs spanning logistics, maintenance, and raw material distribution.

Company executives emphasize that the strategic investment aligns with ARYZTA’s long-term plan to deliver sustainable growth, lower overall corporate debt, and capitalize on expanding consumer demand for premium convenience bakery products across Australasia.

“The new Perth bakery endorses Aryzta’s commitment to strengthen the core by investing in organic growth in a sustainable way,” said Urs Jordi, chairman and interim group chief executive officer of Aryzta. “It also reflects Aryzta’s strong customer focus in this very attractive growth market for bakery products.”
