Tiryaki Syria to operate major oilseeds processing plant in Hama
The agreement aims to strengthen Syria‘s agricultural processing sector and support food security through large-scale soybean and sunflower seed processing.
SYRIA – Tiryaki Syria has signed a 10-year agreement with the Syrian Sovereign Fund to operate the Al Alamiya Oil Industry Factory in Hama, Syria, a move expected to support the country’s food processing sector and increase local agricultural production.
The agreement, announced on June 12, will see the facility process around 300,000 tonnes of soybeans and 100,000 tonnes of sunflower seeds each year. The operation has an estimated value of US$500 million.
The Hama facility will supply products to Syria’s edible oil, food, feed, poultry and livestock sectors. The project also aims to strengthen links between agricultural production and processing activities across the country.
Tiryaki Syria operates under Tiryaki Anadolu, a wholly owned subsidiary of Turkey-based Tiryaki Agro. The company manages 30 production, processing and storage facilities across four continents and sells products in more than 50 countries.
Representatives from both organizations attended the signing ceremony, including Mazen Al-Salhani, chairman of the Syrian Sovereign Fund; Basel Ayyoub, head of the fund’s food and feed sector; and Hashem Shashaa, country manager of Tiryaki Syria. The parties did not disclose financial details of the agreement.
Tiryaki Agro said it will use its experience in logistics, sourcing, operations management and agricultural supply chains to support the plant’s operations. The company also plans to provide training programmes for local workers to help them manage and operate the facility over time.
The agreement comes as Syria continues efforts to rebuild key parts of its economy and improve domestic food production. By increasing local processing capacity, the project could help reduce dependence on imported edible oils and feed ingredients while creating opportunities for farmers and processors.
The Hama plant is expected to become an important processing centre for oilseeds in Syria. Its annual capacity places it among the country’s largest agricultural processing facilities and reflects growing interest in rebuilding industrial food production infrastructure.
The project also highlights increasing cooperation between regional agribusiness companies and Syrian institutions as the country seeks investment in food, feed and agricultural industries.
