The company’s Ugali Afya was ranked among the Top 3 Maize Brands in Kenya, while Chapati Afya and Atta Mark 1 were honored among the Top 3 Wheat Brands in Kenya.

KENYA – Winnie’s Pure Health Products Ltd, a Kenyan provider of organic and nutritious food products, has been recognized for its exemplary contributions to food fortification at the 2025 Kenya Micronutrient Fortification Index (KMFI) Awards.
The awards, organized by the Cereal Millers Association and TechnoServe under the Millers for Nutrition initiative, celebrated 26 millers and 113 brands for their contributions to Kenya’s health and economic goals through fortified wheat flour, maize flour, and edible oils.
During the awards event held on September 16 at the Hyatt Regency in Nairobi, the company secured top positions among key brand categories. Specifically, Ugali Afya was ranked among the Top 3 Maize Brands in Kenya, while Chapati Afya and Atta Mark 1 were similarly honored among the Top 3 Wheat Brands in Kenya.
These distinctions were awarded under the small industries category, reflecting rigorous evaluations based on fortification compliance, product quality, and nutritional impact.
According to the company, this accolade highlights its commitment to providing high-quality, fortified staples that support public health initiatives throughout Kenya.
“These accolades reflect more than awards to us; they are external validation of our unwavering commitment to quality, safety, and impactful nutrition in Kenya’s food industry. They affirm our mission to deliver wholesome, nourishing, and trusted food solutions that align with national health aspirations and industry standards,” the company said.
The KMFI Awards employ independent testing and peer assessments to benchmark industry leaders and promote best practices in food safety and nutrition.
Unga Limited emerged as the overall winner for the second consecutive year, with Bidco Africa also receiving notable accolades in the edible oils category.
However, the spotlight on smaller enterprises like Winnie’s Pure Health demonstrates the initiative’s inclusivity, encouraging scalable improvements across the sector.
Speaking at the event, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, emphasised fortification as a dual strategy for public health and economic growth.
“Fortification enhances the competitiveness of Kenyan brands in regional and international markets while ensuring our people access affordable, nutritious food,” he said.
He lauded the KMFI initiative as a homegrown innovation that has grown from a pilot with five companies in 2022 to a platform now featuring 34 companies, 155 brands, and 122 active participants.
Founded with the mission to become East Africa’s premier provider of healthy foods, Winnie’s Pure Health offers an extensive portfolio of over 35 products, including fortified flours, porridges, herbal teas, spices, salts, rice, honey, and organic free-range eggs.
The company emphasizes organic and natural production methods to ensure wholesome, nourishing options that align with national health goals.
This recent recognition builds on prior successes, such as the FMCG Health Brand of the Year award for Toto Afya in July 2025, which celebrated the brand’s consumer trust in its health-focused innovations.
