Willows Ingredients and HuveNutra collaborate on sustainable aqua feed alternative

BULGARIA- Willows Ingredients, a leading raw material distributor, has forged a strategic partnership with HuveNutra, a specialist in microalgae. 

The collaboration aims to develop HuvePure DHA, a microalgae-derived lipid biomass, as a viable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional fish oil in animal feed.

The managing director of Willows Ingredients, David Scrivens, emphasized the increasing challenges associated with sourcing sufficient fish from oceans without contributing to overfishing. 

Recognizing the importance of Omega-3 fatty acids in delivering proven health benefits and fulfilling standard nutritional requirements for animals, Willows Ingredients seeks to address these challenges through innovative solutions.

HuvePure DHA, in powder form, serves as a vegetarian source of DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid), an essential Omega-3 fatty acid crucial for animal nutrition. This lipid biomass is produced through a fermentation process involving the microalgae strain Schizochytrium sp., providing a sustainable and plant-based alternative to fish-derived oils.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the partnership, Scrivens stated, “We will continue seeking out companies that produce ingredients and solutions that nourish a growing population in ways that are less harmful to our planet.”

The collaboration with Willows Ingredients positions HuveNutra to expand its product distribution into new markets, leveraging Willow’s dedicated and experienced pet food team to provide a reliable and sustainable source of Omega-3 DHA that is free from genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
