The new rail-fed infrastructure strengthens the region’s agricultural supply chain by providing a high-capacity, direct pipeline for feed grain to support its expansive cattle feeding operations.

USA – 5V, a partnership between Five Rivers Cattle Feeding LLC and Viserion Grain LLC, has completed a new shuttle-train grain-receiving facility in Dalhart, Texas, strengthening the region’s capacity to supply grain to cattle feeding operations.
The partners marked the completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in late October 2026, bringing a project launched in June 2025 into its next phase.
The facility connects to the Union Pacific Railroad network and is designed to improve the movement of grain from major producing regions into the Texas Panhandle, a significant centre for cattle feeding, dairy production, and grain merchandising.
The investment aims to meet growing demand for feed ingredients in the region by giving cattle producers an additional rail-based supply route.
The project combines Five Rivers’ established cattle feeding operations with Viserion Grain’s grain origination, merchandising, transportation and storage capabilities.
Through the partnership, the companies aim to improve grain sourcing and delivery, strengthening the connection between agricultural production areas and livestock operations that depend on consistent feed supplies.
“This facility is an investment in the feed supply our cattle feeding operations depend on every day,” said Mike Thoren, president and chief executive officer of Five Rivers Cattle Feeding.
He added that receiving grain by shuttle train provides another important resource for meeting the company’s long-term feeding requirements.
Thomas Stillman, director of North American grain operations at Viserion Grain, said the project brings together the strengths of both organizations, combining Five Rivers’ regional presence and understanding of local requirements with Viserion’s grain marketing and logistics capabilities.
The objective is to move grain efficiently from production areas to the businesses that need it.
Union Pacific’s rail connection is central to the facility’s role in regional agricultural logistics.
Ryan Raess, the railroad’s general director of grain, said reliable rail services help connect grain-producing regions with businesses that depend on these supplies, supporting stronger agricultural supply chains and regional economic development.
Five Rivers operates 13 cattle feedyards across Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona and Idaho. The company has a one-time feeding capacity of more than 900,000 cattle and markets more than 1.8 million head annually.
Both Five Rivers and Viserion Grain are backed by funds managed by Pinnacle Asset Management, a commodities-focused investment firm.
The completion of the Dalhart facility represents a further investment in infrastructure supporting grain distribution and livestock production in the Texas Panhandle.
