UAE – The first-ever shipment of corn fermented protein (CFP) certified under the U.S. Grains Council’s (USGC) Corn Sustainability Assurance Protocol (CSAP) has arrived in the United Arab Emirates, marking a significant development in the country’s move toward sustainable, high-quality animal feed solutions.
CFP, a co-product of ethanol production, is highly regarded for its elevated protein content and digestibility, qualities that make it a prime ingredient in aquaculture and poultry feed.
The shipment follows a commercial agreement finalized during Export Exchange 2023 in Austin, Texas, and further reinforced during the 2024-25 Corn Quality Rollout held in Istanbul, Turkey, in January.
These industry events were organized to connect U.S. exporters with global buyers and promote U.S. corn and its co-products, such as CFP and distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS), especially within the growing sustainable feed sector.
According to the USGC, the delivery reflects rising interest from the UAE’s livestock sector, particularly poultry producers, for innovative and renewable feed sources that align with global sustainability targets.
“This shipment reinforces key global sustainability goals, including traceability, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and responsible land use, while supporting the UAE’s strategic focus on food security and renewable agriculture,” said Ramy H. Taieb, USGC’s regional director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The CSAP certification verifies that the corn used in CFP production complies with stringent environmental, social and economic sustainability benchmarks.
The UAE, with a population of 10.5 million, imports the majority of its corn for use in poultry feed. Feed manufacturers in the country adjust ingredient formulations based on bird age, breed, and market demand.
The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture notes a consistent increase in corn demand in the region, led by the poultry industry.
With operational programs in more than 50 countries and a full-time presence in 28 strategic locations, the USGC continues to play a central role in promoting U.S. corn, barley, sorghum, and related products across global markets.
The delivery of CSAP-certified CFP to the UAE represents a successful step forward in building commercial linkages grounded in sustainability and innovation.
