Lower prices are likely to provide relief to price-sensitive consumers in Africa and parts of Asia

Between January and June, the country will require approximately 750,000 MT of rice, yet projected domestic production for the same period stands at 110,000MT.

The plant will focus on processing popular South Indian rice varieties such as Sona Masoori and Kolam, with commercial production expected to begin in February 2026.

Continued productivity growth in rice and maize is expected to support broader economic stability and reinforce Indonesia’s agricultural sector competitiveness.

The project seeks to meet surging demand for locally grown aromatic rice that can compete on quality, aroma and yield.
