SPAIN – SIMEZA Silos, a leading global manufacturer of grain storage solutions, marked its 50th anniversary with a series of commemorative events in Zaragoza, Spain, celebrating five decades of engineering excellence, innovation, and international expansion.
The celebration drew clients, suppliers, partners, media representatives, and friends from Spain and abroad, underscoring the company’s enduring influence in the global grain handling and storage industry.
Founded in 1975, SIMEZA has grown into a globally recognized brand specializing in the design and manufacture of steel silos and complete grain storage systems.
Today, as part of the Tornum Group, the company continues to drive technological advancement in agricultural storage infrastructure, serving clients across more than 60 countries.
The day’s festivities began at Zaragoza’s iconic Plaza de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, where guests gathered at the earth globe sculpture.
Led by CEO Alberto Baena, the SIMEZA team welcomed attendees to explore the city’s rich heritage and its longstanding connection to the company.
“Zaragoza is at the heart of SIMEZA’s journey, and it is fitting to celebrate our milestone here,” Baena said during the opening remarks.
Following the opening ceremony, guests participated in an immersive Cultural and Gastronomic Tour through Zaragoza’s historic center.
The tour began with the history of Plaza del Pilar, continued to the ancient Roman walls and the sculpture of Caesar Augustus, after whom Zaragoza is named, before weaving through Plaza de San Felipe, where participants enjoyed their first gastronomic stop at Montal.
The group then walked through the lively El Tubo district to Plaza de España, where they sampled the famous “Guardia Civil” tapa, before concluding at Mercado Puerta Cinegia with a traditional rice dish, a hallmark of Aragonese cuisine.
Later in the day, the celebration moved to Restaurante Aura for a corporate reception attended by most of SIMEZA’s employees.
The event was opened by María Jesús Sariñena, Mayor of Utebo, who commended SIMEZA for its strong contribution to local economic development and its role as one of the region’s industrial pillars. “SIMEZA represents the spirit of Zaragoza, resilient, innovative, and community-focused,” she said.
CEO Alberto Baena delivered an emotional address reflecting on the key elements that have driven SIMEZA’s growth over five decades.
“Our success is built on collaboration, integrity, and innovation. We extend heartfelt thanks to our customers and suppliers, whose partnership has been essential in shaping SIMEZA’s global reputation,”Baena noted.
During the event, SIMEZA premiered a corporate video showcasing the company’s daily operations at its factory and offices, followed by remarks from Sofia Svensson, Chief Executive Officer of Tornum Group.
Svensson reflected on SIMEZA’s integration into the Tornum Group following its acquisition in 2023, emphasizing its pivotal role in the group’s global operations.
“When we acquired SIMEZA, our purpose was clear—to continue the journey that began 50 years ago,” she said. “Today, SIMEZA stands as a true center of excellence in steel silos, internationally recognized for quality and reliability.”
A special commemorative video retraced SIMEZA’s 50-year journey, highlighting its evolution across five decades through archival images, interviews, and historical footage.
The company also honored a select group of current and former employees who have been instrumental in shaping its success, including Sebastián Labella, Francisco Labella, Cecilio Ramos, José Antonio Marín, David Ibáñez, Rafael Labella, and Luis Ferrer.
Former owner Luca Celeghini and founders Eduardo Pérez and Antonio López were also recognized for their foundational roles in the company’s establishment and early development.
