USA- Scoular, a leading agribusiness company, has unveiled its third annual sustainability report, underscoring significant strides in environmental responsibility and community engagement.
The report details progress across Scoular’s five sustainability pillars, showcasing the company’s commitment to decarbonization and responsible business practices.
One of the pivotal developments outlined in the report is the establishment of an updated sustainability leadership structure, reflecting Scoular’s dedication to evolving transparency and sustainability practices.
CEO Paul Maass emphasized how this strategy positions Scoular to offer unique solutions in the pursuit of decarbonizing the planet while supporting the well-being of the communities in which they operate.
The report spans the period from June 2022 to May 2023 and highlights key achievements across Scoular’s sustainability pillars:
Reducing carbon footprint
One notable accomplishment is the introduction of Scoular’s sustainability showcase hub at its facility in Adrian, Missouri. Among its innovative features is variable frequency drive technology for bunker fans, adjusting motor speeds based on wind speed readings. This advancement has resulted in a remarkable reduction in site electricity use by over 55%.
Fostering responsible product sourcing
Scoular has instituted a regenerative agriculture program focused on soil health practices. The company sought input from its newly formed Farm Advisory Roundtable Member (FARM) group to ensure the program aligns with sustainable agriculture principles.
Upholding workplace health and safety
A significant achievement in this pillar is the 33% year-over-year reduction in Days Away Restricted or Transferred (DART) injuries at Scoular. This underscores the company’s commitment to creating a safe and secure work environment for its employees.
Promoting diversity and inclusion
The addition of the Scoular Emerging Leaders Organization (SELO) as the fourth employee resource group has led to the creation of 10 new leadership positions within the ERG. SELO aims to drive learning and engagement among Scoular’s emerging leaders, fostering diversity and inclusion.
Engaging in communities
The Scoular Foundation demonstrated its commitment to community engagement by awarding 240 grants to 170 organizations. Notable contributions include US$250,000 grants each to Methodist Hospital and Boys Town National Research Hospital to support mental health initiatives.
Kate Pitschka, Scoular’s Corporate Sustainability Manager, expressed confidence in the company’s ability to meet increasing customer demands for sustainability solutions.
“As customer requests rise, we will continue to scale our sustainability offerings, fostering innovation and elevating our commitments,” she said.
Scoular’s sustainability report serves as a testament to the company’s dedication to shaping a more sustainable future while making positive contributions to the communities it serves.
