USA- The Scoular Co. has acquired three grain handling facilities from Skyland Grain near its Pratt, Kansas shuttle-loader.
The move, announced on January 30, not only doubled Scoular’s storage capacity in the region but also opened up new avenues for market expansion, benefiting area farmers. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
The newly acquired facilities in Trousdale, Cullison, and Greensburg significantly extend Scoular’s footprint in central Kansas, complementing its existing shuttle-loading facility in Pratt, which has been operational for over a decade.
In 2022, Scoular invested in substantial upgrades at the Pratt location, focusing on enhancing unloading speeds and storage capabilities.
Scoular’s expanded facilities will handle a diverse range of grains, including corn, wheat, soybeans, milo, and canola. These commodities will be efficiently transported through Pratt, strategically located on the Union Pacific Railroad mainline. This move ensures that more producers gain access to markets through Scoular’s extensive supply chain network.
The acquisition holds particular significance for Scoular’s commitment to supporting ethanol production. With these new facilities, the company strengthens its ability to supply 100% of the feedstock required by partner Pratt Energy for ethanol production.
TJ Mandl, Regional Manager for Scoular, expressed the company’s dedication to fostering relationships with local producers, customers, and partners.
“Expanding our footprint in central Kansas enables us to better serve local producers, customers, and our partners. We remain committed to building lasting relationships with a continued focus on responsible growth opportunities.”
Scoular, headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, operates a comprehensive grain-handling network across the Midwest, encompassing more than 50 facilities in Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Colorado, and Nebraska.
The recent acquisition propels Scoular to become the eighth-largest North American grain handling company, as listed in Sosland Publishing Co.’s 2024 Grain & Milling Annual.
With 73 grain storage facilities and 170 million bushels of licensed storage, Scoular is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the region’s agricultural landscape.
