Pfening unveils next-gen automatic water dosing system

The system operates in zero-waste mode, eliminating the need to dump water during temperature adjustments.

USA – The Fred D. Pfening Company, a century-old leader in bakery ingredient handling and automation systems, has introduced its most advanced water dosing technology to date at IBIE 2025: the Enviroblender 7 (EBM 7), a next-generation system designed to deliver precise water metering and temperature blending with zero waste and plug-and-play simplicity.

Engineered for modern bakery operations, the EBM 7 automatically meters and blends water to exact batch weight and temperature specifications, helping manufacturers reduce costly water waste while improving product consistency.

For draws of 50 lbs and greater, the system operates in zero-waste mode, eliminating the need to dump water during temperature adjustments.

Off-temperature water is rejected until it’s within 10°F of the setpoint, at which point zero-waste operation resumes.

Accuracy is a standout feature: the EBM 7 meters water to within 0.5% precision, ensuring consistent dough quality across batches.

It features an electric proportional blending valve, eliminating the need for compressed air and simplifying the installation process.

The system supports three input configurations: city and hot, city and chilled, and city, hot, and chilled, making it adaptable to a wide range of bakery setups.

To promote ease of use for operators, the EBM 7 features an integral micro PLC and color touchscreen, allowing for intuitive control and access to up to 20 formulation setpoints.

The unit offers a 200 lbs-per-minute capacity and can reach temperatures up to 180°F, all within a compact footprint suitable for wall or floor mounting.

“Maintaining correct water temperature for each recipe formulation is critical to ensure consistent product quality for bakery operations,” said Ken Girts, sales engineer at Pfening.

“While water is sometimes believed to be inexpensive, that changes when it is treated, filtered, chilled, heated or pumped, as these all add to the cost of use. The EBM 7 helps bakers manage those variables efficiently.”

The launch of the Enviroblender 7 reflects Pfening’s continued commitment to innovation in ingredient handling and process control.

With sustainability, precision, and automation at its core, the EBM 7 is expected to become a staple in bakeries seeking smarter, cleaner, and more cost-effective production systems.
