Oman Flour Mills starts receiving 2026 local wheat harvest
The company has begun collecting this year’s wheat crop from farmers across Oman as it continues a national programme that supports local grain production and food security.
OMAN – Oman Flour Mills has started receiving locally grown wheat from farmers across the Sultanate for the 2026 harvest season, marking the sixth straight year of its national wheat purchase programme.
The company runs the programme each year with support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. The initiative helps farmers grow more wheat, supports local grain production, and strengthens the country’s food supply.
This year’s harvest has drawn strong participation from farmers across several governorates. Oman Flour Mills said early signs show stable participation and a wider range of Omani wheat varieties. The company also expects to receive more wheat than last season, showing steady growth in the programme.
Haitham bin Mohammed Al Fannah, CEO of Oman Flour Mills, said the wheat programme continues to support both farmers and the country’s food security goals.
“The Omani wheat programme represents one of the successful national initiatives supporting food security and empowering farmers,” he said.
Al Fannah said the partnership between the ministry and the company has helped improve farming practices, increase production efficiency and encourage farmers to expand wheat cultivation. He added that the programme gives farmers confidence because it provides a stable and fair market for their harvest.
“Oman Flour Mills plays a key role in completing the value chain by receiving the harvested crop and processing it into national food products, thereby increasing local value addition and supporting Oman’s food security objectives,” he said.
The company receives the wheat from farmers and processes it into food products made in Oman, helping keep more value within the local economy while supporting national food security plans.
Faisal bin Salim Al Ma’shani, Director of the CEO’s Office at Oman Flour Mills, said the programme has become an important link between farmers and the market.
“The wheat receiving programme has become a key pillar in strengthening farmers’ confidence, providing them with an organised and reliable marketing channel,” he said.
Al Ma’shani added that the programme has helped improve wheat quality, increase the amount collected each year and encourage farmers to meet approved standards for growing, harvesting and supplying the crop.
The wheat purchase programme forms part of wider government efforts to support the country’s wheat sector through farmer support, agricultural guidance and the use of modern farming technology.
Oman Flour Mills said it will continue receiving and processing the local harvest to support farmers, strengthen the food supply and increase the contribution of local agricultural production to the national economy.
