Middleby expands bakery business with acquisition of Germany’s Oka

The acquisition of Oka follows a series of strategic purchases by Middleby aimed at consolidating its leadership in food processing.

USA – The Middleby Corporation has announced its acquisition of Oka-Spezialmaschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG, a German manufacturer of industrial bakery equipment, in a strategic move to expand its global food processing portfolio.

The deal adds extrusion, molding, depositing, and cutting technologies to Middleby’s bakery offerings, strengthening its position in the commercial baking and confectionery sectors.

Based in Darmstadt, Germany, Oka generates annual revenues of US$12 million and is known for its advanced engineering capabilities and customer-driven solutions.

The acquisition is expected to close in 2026 and will allow Middleby to integrate Oka’s specialised equipment into its full-line bakery systems, enhancing value for both new and existing clients.

“Oka is known for its advanced engineering capabilities, with an ability to provide unique and high-value customer-driven solutions,” said Tim FitzGerald, CEO of Middleby.

“We expect meaningful sales synergies, as this further enhances our full-line bakery solution offerings to new and existing customers, while also expanding Oka’s reach beyond the German market.”

The acquisition of Oka is part of a series of strategic purchases by Middleby, reinforcing its leadership in food processing.

Earlier this month, Middleby acquired Italy-based Frigomeccanica S.p.A., a specialist in drying, fermentation, and refrigeration systems.

In the past year, it also added Gorreri Food Processing Technology, JC Ford, Emery Thompson, and GBT GmbH Bakery Technology to its portfolio.

These acquisitions reflect Middleby’s commitment to innovation and its ambition to offer comprehensive solutions across bakery, confectionery, and pet food markets.

The company plans to leverage Oka’s engineering expertise to develop new product categories and improve operational efficiencies across its global network.

The acquisition of Oka aligns with Middleby’s long-term strategy to deliver shareholder value following its planned food processing business spinoff in 2026.

By integrating Oka’s advanced engineering capabilities, Middleby aims to streamline production, reduce costs, and enhance customisation for industrial clients.

With this latest deal, Middleby continues to position itself as a dominant force in the foodservice and processing equipment industry, offering end-to-end solutions that meet the evolving demands of manufacturers and consumers alike.
