Kellogg’s expands regenerative agriculture scheme across entire UK wheat supply

By aligning the regenerative programme with its full UK wheat requirement, the company aims to de-risk the transition for farmers while securing a more sustainable and stable supply of a key raw material for its European manufacturing network.

UK – Kellogg’s has announced a major expansion of its sustainable sourcing strategy, extending its regenerative agriculture support to cover 100% of its British wheat supply on a mass-balance basis.

Through a new five-year initiative launched in partnership with agricultural specialist Soil Capital, the company will provide financial incentives, agronomic guidance, and carbon monitoring tools to 25 wheat growers managing nearly 4,000 hectares of UK farmland.

The step marks a significant shift toward field-level sustainability mechanisms to mitigate climate risk and curtail Scope 3 supply chain emissions.

The multi-year investment addresses the company’s substantial domestic supply needs, with Kellogg’s procuring over 20,000 tonnes of British wheat annually.

This locally harvested grain is a core raw ingredient for popular consumer breakfast staples manufactured in the region, including Special K, which is produced at approximately two million bowls per hour at the company’s Wrexham plant in Wales.

By utilizing a mass-balance model, Kellogg’s can support sustainable farming volumes equal to its full UK manufacturing requirement without forcing physical segregation across complex distribution, milling, and storage channels.

Under the framework, participating British farmers will receive technical advice and funding to transition toward practices designed to enhance soil biology, optimize water retention, and protect local biodiversity.

The initiative combines satellite monitoring with field-level soil sampling and digital management software to measure tangible progress over successive harvests.

Initial data gathered from the 2025 harvest cycle indicates early operational success, highlighting a 56.06% increase in direct drilling, a minimal soil disturbance technique, specifically across the participating wheat acreage.

The partnership comes as UK growers confront unprecedented weather volatility, rising input costs, and shifting environmental regulations.

By absorbing some of the financial risk of adopting regenerative methods, Kellogg’s aims to safeguard raw material quality and volume reliability for its manufacturing operations while meeting corporate climate goals.

Company executives emphasized that empowering local growers to build climate-resilient farming systems remains critical to sustaining both domestic food production and long-term agricultural supply security.

Kellogg’s says it will monitor progress under the program through agreed data and indicators, with its climate-related objectives informing the approach.
