J&J Snack Foods launches protein-packed pretzels

The launch features Protein Soft Pretzels and Mini Soft Protein Pretzels, delivering 7 to 10 grams of plant-based protein per serving while retaining the brand’s signature soft texture and robust flavor, available nationwide starting March 1, 2026.

USA – J&J Snack Foods Corp., a leading player in the frozen snack industry, has unveiled a new line of protein-enriched soft pretzels under its Superpretzel banner, targeting health-conscious consumers seeking convenient, indulgent snacks.

The new offerings include a full‑size SuperPretzel Protein Soft Pretzel delivering 10 grams of plant‑based protein per serving and a SuperPretzel Mini Soft Protein Pretzel in a resealable bag that provides 7 grams of protein per serving, both formulated to be vegan and lower in fat than traditional soft pretzel options.

The full‑size protein pretzels are described as hand‑twisted, Bavarian‑style soft pretzels that can be prepared quickly at home, ready after 30 seconds in the microwave or 4 to 6 minutes in an air fryer or oven, offering a convenient, protein‑forward alternative for consumers seeking both taste and nutrition in the frozen snack aisle.

The products are also marketed as low in fat, a combination intended to broaden appeal among shoppers balancing indulgence with nutritional priorities.

J&J Snack frames the launch as part of SuperPretzel’s evolution to meet modern snacking habits while preserving the brand’s signature texture and flavor.

Chief Marketing Officer Lynwood Mallard emphasized the strategic timing, noting that 60% of frozen snack buyers now prioritize protein, reflecting broader shifts toward functional foods in a US$100 billion US snacking market strained by inflation and wellness trends.

The full-size pretzels come in boxes with four 2.5-oz pretzels, priced at US$5.29 to US$5.99, while minis offer a resealable 10.5-ounce bag for on-the-go portions, priced between US$4.29 and US$4.99.

This positions Superpretzel as a pioneer in protein-forward frozen bakery items amid rising demand for vegan-friendly, high-protein options.

Both products will be available at select US retailers starting March 1.

Retail rollout plans emphasize placement in the frozen foods section, where SuperPretzel has long been a recognizable presence, while the mini pretzels may also target ambient snack channels given their shelf‑stable packaging.

J&J Snack’s move reflects a wider category shift in which established comfort foods are being reformulated or extended to include functional benefits, such as higher protein, whole grains, and plant‑based ingredients, to capture evolving consumer preferences.
