Ghirardelli enters gluten-free market with its new brownie mix

This new offering will allow gluten-free consumers to indulge in the same Ghirardelli brownie experience made with the same chocolate.

USA – Ghirardelli Chocolate Company, an American confectioner wholly owned by Swiss company Lindt & Sprüngli, has launched a gluten-free double chocolate brownie mix that is made with brown rice flour instead of wheat flour.

The brownie mix features a combination of sweet and bittersweet chocolate chips, a blend of cocoa powders, and a hint of vanilla.

According to Ghirardelli, an 18-ounce pouch of the brownie mix, when combined with butter, water, oil, and an egg, yields an 8×8-inch pan of rich, fudgy brownies.

“This highly anticipated offering allows everyone to indulge in the rich chocolate goodness of Ghirardelli’s beloved double chocolate brownie. We’re delighted to bring the same cherished craftsmanship and decadent experience into the kitchens of all home bakers, regardless of dietary needs,” said David Dulyx, vice president of Ghirardelli’s licensing and professional products division.

The gluten-free double chocolate brownie mix is available for $5.99 at participating grocery retailers nationwide, including Walmart and Kroger.

Ghirardelli Chocolate Company was founded by Italian chocolatier Domenico Ghirardelli and is the third-oldest chocolate company in the United States, after Baker’s Chocolate and Whitman’s.

According to their website, Ghirardelli is one of the few chocolate companies in the U.S. that controls every aspect of its chocolate manufacturing process.

The company roasts the cocoa seeds in-house, removing the outer shell of the seeds and roasting the inner portions. The chocolate is then ground and refined to a particle size of 19 micrometers (0.00075 inches).

Ghirardelli produces a variety of chocolate flavors, available in bar form or miniature squares, as well as chocolate chips, baking chocolate bars, chocolate syrups, and gourmet items like soufflés and tarts.

Additionally, the company offers food service items, such as chocolate beverages and flavored sauces, to other retailers.

According to a report by Fortune Business Insights, the global gluten-free food market was valued at US$6.74B in 2023 and is projected to grow from US$7.28B in 2024 to US$13.81B by 2032, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.33% during the forecast period.

The rising prevalence of celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and other health issues related to unhealthy lifestyles, along with the prevention of disorders such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity, chronic pulmonary disease, and metabolic syndrome, are expected to drive demand and market growth for gluten-free products.
