GAPKI strengthens global partnerships to boost sustainable practices

The international campaign aims to enhance trade, knowledge sharing, and market opportunities.

INDONESIA – The Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) has recently strengthened its partnerships with organizations in the United States and Europe through six newly signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to boost sustainable practices across the palm oil supply chain.

This move aligns with GAPKI’s strategic international campaign to improve trade, knowledge sharing, and market opportunities for Indonesian palm oil, while emphasizing sustainability and fact-based dialogue as core pillars of global cooperation.

These agreements focus on developing a comprehensive framework to enhance trade facilities, promote certification, and support sustainable production methods among smallholder farmers, who contribute significantly to Indonesia’s palm oil output.

Strengthening these partnerships underscores Indonesia’s commitment to meeting rising global demand for palm oil through environmentally responsible production that avoids deforestation, protects peatlands, and upholds social standards.

Key aspects of the collaboration include advancing transparency and traceability throughout the supply chain and utilizing technological solutions, such as satellite monitoring and blockchain.

Additionally, the partnerships endeavor to empower smallholders by expanding access to certification programs, technical training, and financial tools.

This approach helps mitigate compliance challenges posed by emerging regulations, such as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), and improves the livelihoods and resilience of farming communities.

Furthermore, the cooperation involves coordinated efforts on policy advocacy, regulatory simplification, and joint research and development initiatives to promote climate-resilient agricultural practices.

GAPKI represents Indonesia’s palm oil producers, who account for approximately 60% of global palm oil production.

The association continues to engage with stakeholders worldwide to advance sustainable practices and promote fact-based dialogue on the palm oil sector.

Together, the US, EU, and Indonesian entities aim to ensure stability in palm oil trade, food security, and fair market access while moving towards greener, more sustainable palm oil production.

The reinforced ties with key regions also signal Indonesia’s ambition to retain its position as a global leader in palm oil by advancing inclusive, sustainable growth that balances economic benefits with environmental and social responsibilities.

This includes meeting ambitious goals such as increasing smallholder certification rates, reducing greenhouse gas emissions from production, and promoting regenerative agriculture.

GAPKI’s recent US and European partnership expansions exemplify a strategic step toward aligning Indonesia’s palm oil industry with global sustainability standards and securing a resilient supply chain to meet the evolving expectations of markets worldwide.
