Egyptian Al-Atta Group secures US$11M to establish packaged grain production facility

The facility is scheduled to begin production in 2027 and will have an annual capacity of 10,000 tonnes of packaged grains.

EGYPT – Al-Atta Group for Food and Mining Industries has secured a US$11 million (EGP 515 million) investment agreement with Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) to establish a packaged grain production facility in the Sokhna Industrial Zone.

The investment marks a further expansion of value-added grain capacity within the country’s strategic logistics corridor.

The contract, signed at SCZONE’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, covers the development of a 17,000-square-metre site under the Main Development Company (MDC), the authority’s development arm.

According to the company, the facility is scheduled to begin production in 2027 and will have an annual capacity of 10,000 tonnes of packaged grains. Approximately 30 direct jobs are expected to be created.

For Egypt’s grains and milling sector, the project strengthens downstream integration by adding modern grain cleaning, grading, and packaging infrastructure within close proximity to Sokhna Port.

The location offers logistical advantages for both domestic distribution and export shipments, particularly to markets across the Middle East and Africa where demand for packaged staple products continues to expand.

The move comes at a time when Egypt is seeking to increase local value addition in food processing while improving supply chain efficiency.

By locating grain packaging operations within an integrated industrial zone linked to maritime trade routes, the project is expected to reduce handling costs and improve turnaround times for bulk and containerised shipments.

Waleed Gamal El-Din, Chairperson of SCZONE, oversaw the signing of the agreement. The authority indicated that it continues to support projects aligned with food security, supply chain resilience, and industrial localisation.

In addition to grain packaging, the Al-Atta Group project includes activities related to the processing and trading of minerals and precious stones, reflecting the company’s diversified portfolio within food and mining industries.

Alongside the Al-Atta agreement, SCZONE signed a second contract valued at US$2 million (EGP 94 million) with Grass Egypt for the manufacture of fertilisers, soil conditioners, and agricultural pesticides.

The 15,000-square-metre fertiliser facility is scheduled to begin operations in early 2027, with projected annual output between 5,000 and 7,000 tonnes and 70 direct jobs.

The Grass Egypt project contributes directly to the substitution of imported fertilisers and pesticides,” Gamal El-Din said, adding that the authority’s strategy aims to localise national industries and deepen local components in essential sectors.

Collectively, the two projects, valued at US$13 million (EGP 609 million), reinforce Sokhna’s role as an emerging agro-industrial hub.
