Cybake enhances its bakery management software system

Cybake’s customers, who sought a user-friendly, affordable, and comprehensive traceability solution to facilitate quick product recalls and audits, prompted this update.

UK – Cybake, a bakery management software company based in York, UK, has introduced a new module focused on paperless lot tracking, traceability, and manufacturing execution to its ERP-style bakery management system.

The complexity of this requirement prompted Cybake’s in-house programming team to completely redesign how the software operates within the baking production environment.

The newly introduced module now shares information throughout the production area, accessible to colleagues via tablets.

According to Cybake, this data is now faster, easier to understand, more accurate, and up to date, which helps reduce errors, waste, and the time spent on repetitive paperwork.

Bakeries require traceability that covers both the ingredients used and the products made. In the event of a food safety recall, they must trace the suppliers of the ingredients that were included in any batch of products and identify which businesses or stores received those products.

With the new module, instead of relying on error-prone paper systems or spreadsheets, staff can enter vendor lot codes for ingredients upon arrival.

Cybake then generates internal lot codes and prints new barcodes to be attached. Each ingredient is tracked systematically through production, picking, and delivery processes.

If a supplier contacts the bakery about an issue with an ingredient, Cybake can promptly identify which products were made using those ingredients and to which companies or stores those products were sold.

Additionally, if there are concerns regarding any ingredients or products at the bakery, they can be quickly tracked and recalled from the businesses or stores that received them, assisting bakeries in compliance with BRC, SALSA, ISO, and FSMA Rule 204 in the U.S.

Beyond lot tracking and traceability, Cybake’s new module features a paperless manufacturing execution system (MES).

Rather than using traditional paper prep sheets, the software informs colleagues in the production area about which products to bake and in what quantities through tablet or mobile screens.

The software also provides clear, user-friendly instructions, complete with images, on how to produce the items, tailored to the specific equipment of the bakery.

For instance, if a bakery has a 140-lb mixer, Cybake adjusts the ingredient quantities in its instructions accordingly. This functionality proves particularly beneficial for bakeries without intelligent mixers or scales. Additionally, colleagues can monitor the location of ingredient lots within the bakery, their stock levels, and expiration dates.

Recognizing that bakeries often need to start baking before receiving customer orders, Cybake’s new module allows users to schedule production in advance. The software suggests optimal scheduling numbers based on historical customer orders.
