Bühler launches new Pick-up Cleaner to tackle long impurities in grain processing

Developed to serve as the critical first line of defense in milling and grain intake plants, this innovation aims to eliminate the operational bottlenecks caused by modern harvesting and packaging methods.

SWITZERLAND – Bühler Group has unveiled its latest innovation in post-harvest grain handling: the Pick-up Cleaner, a next-generation pre-cleaning system specifically engineered to eliminate long impurities from freshly harvested grain before they cause damage to downstream processing machinery.

The latest innovation positions the Pick-up Cleaner as a direct response to one of the grain milling and processing industry’s most persistent and costly operational headaches: the accumulation of long foreign materials, such as threads, nylon strings, and extended straw stalks, that routinely enter grain streams during harvest and transportation.

According to Bühler, these long impurities pose a significant risk to processing lines, frequently causing blockages, unexpected downtime, and accelerated wear on equipment positioned further along the production chain.

When such stoppages occur, they not only interrupt output but also drive up maintenance costs and compromise the finished product’s overall quality.

The Bühler Pick-up Cleaner (notably the LALB series) addresses these challenges by intercepting and removing problematic materials at the earliest possible stage, before they reach sieves, rollers, or other sensitive processing components.

By acting as a robust front-line barrier, the system is designed to safeguard the entire downstream infrastructure and help operations maintain consistent throughput.

Bühler highlights three core benefits the machine brings to grain processing facilities. First, it significantly reduces unplanned downtime and the frequency of maintenance interventions caused by long impurities.

Second, it is engineered to maximize throughput and protect product quality by ensuring a cleaner grain stream enters the main processing line.

Third, the system introduces greater automation into the cleaning process, reducing the need for manual intervention and enhancing worker safety on the plant floor.

The launch reflects Bühler’s broader strategic focus on developing solutions that improve efficiency and sustainability across the global food supply chain.

With grain processing operations under increasing pressure to reduce waste, cut operational costs, and meet tighter quality standards, equipment that can reliably automate early-stage contamination removal is expected to draw strong interest from millers and grain handlers worldwide.

With the launch of the Pick-up Cleaner, Bühler reaffirms its commitment to providing robust, future-proof solutions that help grain processors worldwide maintain high standards of efficiency and safety in an increasingly complex agricultural landscape.
