UK – ADM has embarked on a trailblazing partnership with Voltloader, a leader in electric heavy goods vehicle (HGV) logistics in an initiative aimed at revolutionizing wheat transportation while combating greenhouse gas emissions.
This collaboration heralds a new era in sustainable supply chain management. ADM will leverage Voltloader’s electric fleet to transport wheat from farms to processing facilities in the UK.
The pilot program, a significant stride towards ADM’s corporate sustainability objectives, is propelled by the company’s steadfast commitment to reducing Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2035.
Operating initially from ADM’s Corby facility in Northamptonshire, the initiative utilizes Voltloader’s electric bulk fleet vehicles, powered by Volvo FM Electric tractors and Weightlifter tipping trailers specially designed for optimal payload and range.
Ashley Fuller, Commercial Director of ADM Milling UK, lauded the collaboration with Voltloader as a pivotal milestone in advancing sustainable field-to-flour solutions.
“We are thrilled to partner with Voltloader on this initiative, addressing our customers’ growing demand for environmentally responsible supply chain practices,” Fuller remarked.
With ten weekly loads of wheat scheduled for transportation, ADM is aiming to showcase the viability and effectiveness of electric vehicles in agricultural logistics.
A successful trial could open the door to wider adoption of electric transportation across ADM’s milling locations in the UK, further fortifying the company’s sustainability endeavors.
Dave Rose, founder and CEO of Voltloader, underscored the partnership’s environmental benefits, emphasizing the tangible impact of reducing carbon emissions.
“Replacing diesel trucks with electric counterparts running on renewable electricity can directly mitigate up to 100 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually,” Rose explained. “This collaboration signifies our collective commitment to steering the industry towards a greener, more sustainable future.”
Beyond its immediate environmental advantages, ADM’s collaboration with Voltloader positions the company as a trailblazer in innovative logistics solutions within the agricultural sector. By embracing electric transportation, ADM reaffirms its dedication to driving positive change and fostering sustainability across its operations.
