The company launched the new site to expand production capabilities and meet growing demand for decorative toppings and cake decorations from both retail and food-service customers across North America.

CANADA – Spectra Confectionery Ltd. has opened a new production facility in Mississauga, Ontario, as the company expands its manufacturing capabilities and strengthens its position in the North American bakery ingredients market.
The new site is expected to increase Spectra’s overall capabilities by approximately 40%, providing additional capacity to support customer demand, product development and the company’s continued expansion into the United States.
Founded in 1996, Spectra has grown into what it describes as the largest Canadian manufacturer of toppings for baked foods, snack foods and ice cream products. Its portfolio includes sprinkles and other decorative toppings designed to add colour, texture and visual appeal to a wide range of food applications.
The company’s products include naturally coloured, sugar-free and uniquely shaped toppings, reflecting growing demand from food manufacturers and bakeries for differentiated decorating ingredients.
The new Mississauga facility is expected to give Spectra additional room to scale production while maintaining its focus on innovation and customer service.
The investment comes as manufacturers across the bakery and snack sectors increasingly seek ingredient suppliers capable of providing customized products and responding quickly to changing consumer preferences.
Spectra also works closely with bakeries and snack producers across the United States, making the new facility strategically important for its cross-border growth plans.
Increased production capacity could help the company serve existing customers more efficiently while creating opportunities to develop new business relationships in the US market.
The expansion also highlights the growing importance of decorative ingredients in the bakery sector.
Manufacturers and commercial bakeries increasingly use sprinkles, nonpareils, sugars and other toppings to differentiate products and create visual appeal, particularly in categories such as cakes, cupcakes, cookies, doughnuts, ice cream and snack foods.
For Spectra, the new facility represents more than increased manufacturing capacity. The company said the expansion creates a stronger foundation for innovation, customer service and continued business growth.
The additional capacity is expected to support its ability to develop new shapes, colours and formats while meeting the requirements of bakery and food manufacturers.
As demand for distinctive bakery products continues to evolve, ingredient suppliers are under pressure to combine flexibility with consistent quality and reliable supply.
Spectra’s expansion positions the company to respond to these requirements while pursuing further growth beyond Canada.
The new Mississauga operation therefore marks an important stage in Spectra’s development, strengthening its domestic manufacturing base while supporting its ambitions in the wider North American market.
In 2024, SK Capital Partners, a private investment firm focused on the ingredients, specialty materials, and life sciences sectors, completed the acquisition of Spectra Confectionery Ltd. from founders Bill and Maureen Georgas and the Georgas family.
