JGL Commodities to acquire Saskatchewan grain terminal

The terminal will add grain handling and storage capacity to JGL Commodities’ network, supporting a reliable and efficient supply chain for producers and end-use customers.

CANADA – JGL Commodities has entered into an agreement to acquire the Providence Grain Solutions terminal located near Marengo, Saskatchewan, expanding its physical asset footprint across Western Canada’s grain-growing region.

The strategic acquisition is slated to close in August 2026, marking a significant operational milestone for the full-service commodity merchandising and logistics firm. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Marengo terminal, located in west-central Saskatchewan, represents a key piece of infrastructure in one of the province’s most productive crop-growing regions.

According to records from the Canadian Grain Commission’s elevator registry, the primary elevator facility boasts a licensed storage capacity of 22,960 tonnes and features direct rail access serviced by Canadian National Railway (CN).

By integrating this high-throughput asset into its existing network, JGL Commodities aims to strengthen direct ties with local growers and enhance its capacity to supply both domestic processors and international export markets.

Chief Executive Officer of JGL Commodities, Shea Jameson, described the acquisition as a natural evolution for the firm’s business model, noting that the Marengo asset fits seamlessly within their ongoing strategy to build value throughout the agricultural supply chain.

Jameson emphasized that adding physical elevation and storage capacity allows the company to offer enhanced competitive marketing options for area producers while expanding its reach across key production corridors.

Echoing these remarks, JGL Commodities General Manager Glen Loyns highlighted the company’s vision as a long-term partner for Prairie farmers.

Loyns stated that the investment is designed to provide greater connectivity between farm-gate production and end-use customers globally, helping local producers maximize overall returns.

The company confirmed that it will retain all existing local operational staff at the Marengo site, ensuring continuity of service and ongoing support for the local agricultural economy.

JGL Commodities, which trades roughly one million tonnes of grains, oilseeds, and pulse crops annually across North America, announced that further operational details and expanded producer services for the Marengo terminal will be unveiled following the formal closing of the transaction.

JGL Commodities and its US affiliate are full-service grain and feed ingredient suppliers with more than 45 years of experience, buying and marketing all types of grain across Western Canada and the United States, including barley, wheat, durum, canola, flax, pulses and off-grade products.

The company is also a leading animal feed supplier to the North American beef, pork and poultry production industries, and trades approximately 1,000,000 metric tonnes of grains, pulses and oilseeds each year.

It works closely with several toll processors and shippers across Canada and the US, and owns and operates a transloading facility in Southern Saskatchewan, giving it a wide variety of shipping options.
